GoDaddy is a hosting platform that has been around for a long time. They also provide web hosting as domains and host of other services like SSL Certificates. GoDaddy is fairly good. I recommend this for beginners as it is a great low-cost platform to start on. Once you have gained a lot of traffic and your bandwidth is going to get all taken up, you will have to upgrade your hosting to allow for more bandwidth. It will be $1/month for WordPress hosting with a free domain. You won’t find that kind of a deal anywhere else for beginners. However, compared to Shopify which is $29/month compared to $12/year of WordPress hosting and blogging so it is a great way to get started especially if you are on a budget. The cool thing about WordPress is you can put WooCommerce on it and sell eCommerce products. If you want a really low-cost eCommerce store platform to start using and experiment with.

The Backend of Godaddy and Wordpress

Every GoDaddy account comes with Domain, Managed WordPress, Email & Office, SSL Certificates, Email Marketing, and  Domain Products.

Let’s go add a website. Under Managed WordPress, click Set up button. You will be routed to a different page where it says Add Site. You will be asked What would you like to do?. As for me, I chose to build a brand new site on the drop-down menu. 

On the next step, it will ask your purpose for the website, this is where your customers are. I chose North America which is usually recommended. 

You will then be asked to create a WordPress login. Enter your username and password and click the Continue button. 

It will then install WordPress on your website. Once done installing, you will be routed to the next page where you can manage your WordPress. They will give you a temporary domain. It says that Action required on Status. On the left side, click on Add custom domain. I can then use any of my purchased domains. I chose my name to make it easy. 

One of the great things you can do is set up a personal brand website and just use your name. One of the coolest things that come with managed WordPress is a free domain. If you use my link it will give you the option to choose a free domain with $12 starting payment. You can always upgrade to one of those packages later.

Once the domain is already connected, I can go ahead and click the WP Admin button which will bring me to WordPress dashboard where I can set things up. 

Another cool thing about GoDaddy is that you can actually access the WordPress admin. The first thing it will do is give you a Get Started Quickly with WordPress. Click on the Start Wizard button. It will ask you questions about what are you going to do with your website. What Type of website would you like to create, industry, title, and tagline? To proceed, click the Continue button.  

On the next page, you will be asked the email address, phone number, fax number, address, and social media profiles. This will be placed on the footer of the website. However, these are optional. 

The last step would be choosing a theme. I chose Ascension as it has a clear menu on the top and nice call to action button and images. Inside the theme, the first thing you can set up is the banner image. After you click Select, it will then install your theme. 

Once done, you will be routed to the page where you can customize more of your theme. You can also watch a tutorial on how to use the theme that you chose. 

On the bottom left part, you have the option to choose the view of whether it is for desktop, tablet, or mobile. 

The things you can set up on the WordPress theme are Site Identity, Layout, Colors, Fonts, Header Media, Background Image, Menus, Widgets, Homepage Settings, and Additional CSS. 

Once you are done setting up the theme and go back to the WordPress dashboard, just know that you can always reach that by going to Appearance > Customize. 

One thing I like about the WordPress dashboard is that they have a lot of cool stuff. They are coming up with new things all the time. There’s a new editor now called Gutenberg. 

On the dashboard menu, it will tell you what you need to do next. You can edit your front page, add additional pages,  add a blog post, and view your site. There are also more steps you can do like Manage widgets or menus, Turn comments on and off, and learn more about getting started. 

On the upper left corner, you can set up the screen option. You can tick which boxes you want to show on the dashboard. You can tick the boxes of At a Glance, Activity, GoDaddy Garage, Quick Draft, WordPress events on News, Welcome, and News Editor.

Posts > All Posts. 

This will show you all of your blog posts. You can Edit, Quick Edit, Trash, and View. 

When you use GoDaddy, there is a plugin that is already installed which is called Beaver Builder. It is a visual builder that is a lot like thrive themes. You will be able to move things around on the page itself. You can add the basic options which are adding photos, audio, video, HTML, and text editor. The media option, you can add a content slider and gallery. For the action option, you can add Callout and Call to Action. Lastly is the layout option. 

Beaver builder is a great way to make your blog posts more professional. 

Posts > Categories

They are your main topics. Mine is travel and eCommerce 

Posts > Tags

Tags are used for sorting between subcategories. If you are talking about suppliers, niches, Thailand, and Bali. Those are the things you call Tags. 

Media 

Any files like PDF or any clickable access through your blog. You can have pictures or videos too. 

Pages

You can see all the pages, which are usually About Us, Blog, Contact Us, FAQs, Gallery, Home, Portfolio, and Services. You can add more.

Comments

You have the option to use GoDaddy’s built-in comments. 

Ninja Forms 

It is a plugin that you can create forms on your website. It could be Contact Form, Estimate Form, or any form you like. 

Plugins

You can add plugins by going to plugins store. You just have to click the Add New button. All the plugins are free which makes WordPress really cool. 

Users

Manage your users. You can add, remove, and change their functionality.

Tools

You can Import, Export and Export Personal Data. 

 

To sum it all up, GoDaddy is a great host. It is awesome for beginners as the pricing plans are good enough to where you can grow significantly. 

Take note that GoDaddy does not provide SSL on their basic and deluxe plan. You will have to purchase SSL separately but if you choose their Ultimate plan, you will only pay around $74.99 which is far cheaper than other SSL sources.
