How to Handle Negativity and Critics in Your Life

Hey guys, welcome to today's episode of the eCommerce Paradise podcast.

Today's topic is how to handle negativity and critics in your life.

As you go through life, you probably have critics and certain people who are negative towards your ambitions and goals. Those people can sometimes include parents, your friends, coworkers, acquaintances, and even yourself. I want to give you guys a little bit of advice from my experiences dealing with negativity and people who don't necessarily think you're going to find success in on the path you're on in life. And the reason is for that is, this kind of stuff can derail you and your ambitions, and the places you want to go. It could dissolve all your excitement, inspiration, and motivation to get there.

So the first thing is to understand that as human beings, the less we understand something, the more we fear it. We're all the same. And when you don't understand something and someone is pushing it upon, you have some fear. Well, you tend not to like it as much, and you fear it. If people aren't entrepreneurs and aren't naturally entrepreneurial, when you, as entrepreneurs, talk to them, most likely you're going to run into a kind of a brick wall or someone who's not going to respond to you. They're probably going to be quiet, and they're not going to be excited. They're not going to feed the conversation much.

Suppose you run into anybody who does network marketing. In that case, they're excited to talk about their business because part of their job is to recruit people into their business model as network marketers and multilevel marketers. And those types of people are very, very excited. And if you don't understand what they're doing, you don't understand their business model, you're going to fear it a little bit, and you're probably not going to give them much feedback. Whereas if you are a person that's into that kind of stuff, if you like it, then you'll give them positive feedback. So, you know, salesmen and marketers, we run into a lot of negativity in our lives. And as a salesman, you would know that it takes lots of phone calls, hang-ups on the phone, and doors closing in your face to sell a product or service to somebody. So it is understood. It just makes sense to understand the basic essential human behavior behind fear so that you know that. And that's the first foundational cause of negativity and critics critical thinking.

The first way to overcome that is to understand that if someone doesn't understand you, you have to make a concerted effort. Understand where they're coming from, what their experiences are, and why they react towards you because everything in life leads up to right now. It's rooted in our past experiences. Depending on what kind of experience you had, good experience or bad experience, all those things will make a difference in what you like and what you don't like, what you understand, what you don't understand, what you fear, and what you don't fear.

If you run into a critic, understand them a little more. If you're trying to get them into doing something that they don't want to do, they're probably going to be critical of what you're doing. Just understand more about them and start asking them questions about themselves and just be truly interested in them as a human being.

Everybody has a story to tell. If you learn people's stories, not only are you going to make a better connection with that person but also they will like you more. You're actually going to learn a little more about human nature and how to persuade people better.

Part of the persuasion process is simply asking somebody why they want to do something in the first place. If they don't want to do something, ask them why it will uncover more past experiences and preconceived notions, ideas, and opinions that they may have towards whatever you're doing. And that's why they have that critical nature towards you.

Another good way to get along is actually to avoid talking to them about things that they don't like talking to you about. Like, if you have a parent that's critical or negative about your ambitions in life, you could just avoid talking to them about your ambitions unless they ask. It's not that hard.

You have to find a place where somebody is comfortable connecting with you. And if you if you've moved from that place where you want to connect, but they don't want to connect, then you're going to run. And negativity is just natural. Understand that. Don't push it upon people. Instead, if they ask you to be brief and explain a good enough answer to them, go and ask them about them their lives, what they're doing, because a lot of times people only ask you questions like what do you do or how's your business going or whatever. All they want is for you to start asking them questions about themselves because they want to talk. Everybody's the same. We all want to talk about ourselves, right? Understand that about people. If you can move the conversation back towards them, you sound like a more interesting person. You will get them to like you more. And as a parent or a friend, a colleague or coworker, it can go a long way in getting favors in the future. So I highly recommend doing that.

The best way for an entrepreneur to make connections with people, make them care about what you're doing, and make them help you is to create or join some sort of a mastermind group. A lot of entrepreneurs are very like-minded. We all like to talk about our ambitions. I like to help each other achieve success because it's true. When you lift somebody else up, you're going to end up getting lifted up yourself as well. Because we don't contain all the answers in the world, even if we do tons of training and try to learn stuff all the time, we still don't have all the answers. So a mastermind group is the best way to do it.

With the mastermind group, you're on the same level as that person. You're kind of near the same level as well as your skill sets. You can help each other out because you're at the same place. It is recommended as an entrepreneur that you record your progress on your business in a YouTube video or a blog post format regularly. It helps others and helps build an audience around what you're doing. So later on, you can eventually create a business there as well. A separate business, a spinoff business.

With a mastermind group, you actually get to be in a deeper connection with them and be much closer to them. And as you help them with what you understand, they'll help you expand your understanding and preconceived notions of how marketing works or how business works or whatever it is that can help because you know it'll move beyond that. And now you're going to have these new groups of people to connect with.

It feels great because connecting with people is a core human desire. We all want to feel appreciated, feel respected. We all want to feel like we have friends, and we're social people, social beings.

Don't hang out with people who are negative and critical towards you as much and hang out more with positive people. They're nicer and willing to help you as a friend to understand what you're doing. Especially if you're making the wrong moves in life or making the wrong moves in your business, a good mastermind group will be filled with people willing to tell you that and correct your path a bit. And that's not being negative or critical. That's actually helping on a much higher level because we need that sometimes.

All this is about getting beyond your gut reaction towards negativity and criticism. As a salesman or marketer, you're going to run into negativity and criticism from your customers. That's one thing I like about Internet marketing. As you put up a website and put up marketing funnels, email marketing, and social media marketing, people will tell themselves all the objections they had towards your offer, but you don't have to deal with that right there. Unless you're on the phone with them or have an email conversation, you'd have to deal with all the objections.

The beauty of eCommerce is that you can create funnels where people sell themselves on your offers. All have something to do with the funnel and the copywriting and the language you use and who your target market is and how you're reaching them.

Try to surround yourself with more positive people, and are good for you in your life. And it really sucks if your parents and family aren't as positive. But just be respectful towards them and hang out with them sometimes and talk to them. But you can't spend all your time around these types of people because they'll drag you down. Just understand it and spend a lot of time with people who are more positive and want to help you grow in your life.
