KW Finder Review: Is It The Best Keyword Research Tool for SEO?

Finding low competition keywords may sometimes be quite a challenge for most SEO writers. This is because often the keywords that are preferable and more attractive to use are usually quite competitive and using them may not guarantee an increase in the flow of traffic to a particular website. Most SEO writers end up in a conundrum where their perfect keywords don’t drive the kind of traffic that they should.

In the recent past, the Google keyword planner has lost its accuracy. While the free keyword planner was quite the savior for many writers, it is now imperative to have a keyword search tool. Fortunately, SEO writers can now breathe easier thanks to the KW Finder tool that is available for them to use and get out of such tough spots. This tool is specifically meant to make the keyword research process an easier process. This it has managed to do with the efficiency that has remained elusive with the other available tools in the market; if anything, this tool can correctly be referred to as outstanding. The tool can also be a good ace to have for those who are interested in link building.

The research results from using this tool can be described as thorough in such a way that even the maître de in the SEO writing arena is bound to be more than impressed. This data is also presented in an innate manner within their demonstrative user interface that is easy for all and sundry to understand and access.

Any player in the SEO market knows how important it is to find keywords that have a high search volume but with low competition. These words also have to be trending so that they act as a lifeline in terms of free search engine traffic.

It is an unfortunate scenario when people who don’t have the slightest clue about how SEO writing works decide to design a keyword search tool. This happens mainly because they see the SEO market as a hot cake and this has some grievous repercussions. Most of these tools fail to understand that the whole idea behind optimizing keywords is so that marketers can arrive at words that will enable them to ultimately generate profits. And if that is not bad enough, these developers end up bloating these already substandard tools with lots of unnecessary features to make them look superior to justify the price tag that they attach to their tools.

While unfortunately many new marketers fall for this deception, this doesn’t have to be the case. I went out of my way to find out more about the KW Finder.

What you need to know about KW Finder tool

The KW Finder was developed by Mangools. Some of the things you need to know about KW Finder in case you want to try it out include:

  • The cost- it is one of the cheapest keyword research tools right now with its premium rate of $29.90 per month
  • Effectiveness- it is the one stop shop for all things that you may need to know when conducting a keyword search
  • Support- it offers you several ready support options that include live support chat for round the clock assistance
  • Ease of use- the user interface is easy to navigate and understand in a way that new users will find amazing

It is this simplicity and focuses on the end user’s ability to navigate the tool that makes this tool unique in functionality and design. In addition, this tool offers a one-click keyword complexity score approach plus several other features that are unique to it only.

How KW Finder works

The following are some simple ways in which you can use this tool to find keywords.

  • To find informational keywords

These are terms that people tend to use when looking for answers to particular problems. These words don’t try to sell anything in contrast to the commercial keywords. To find these words, you will need to carry out a general search using your niche as the seed keyword. From the results that will come up, you can then analyze the difficulty score by clicking on any keyword and waiting for a few seconds. You will then be able to see the score in the keyword suggestions window.

This approach will bring up some informational keywords that you could use to optimize your content. While this standard search may work well, this tool goes on to make it easier to look up informational keywords using the “Questions” option through which you can easily key in a query-based suggestion without much of a hassle.

Using the “Questions” option, you will be able to find even more suggestions that did not come up with the first search. Letting the KW Finder add its own question-related prefixes brings in considerable difference in the results. Going by search volume, the results from this research may not be as high but that should not be confused to mean these keywords are not worth following.

  • To find commercial keywords

Unlike the informational keywords, these keywords have the primary goal of converting into actual sales. To find them, you will begin with a general search using your niche as the seed keyword. A number of keyword suggestions will come up. You will then need to narrow your search further using the appropriate filters.

These filters are very important when researching these commercial keywords as they use very specific modifiers that give the keyword the commercial overtones in the first place.

You may find that sometimes there are no keyword suggestions to match your search because the initial sample is probably too small to work with. In this case, you will need to dig deeper into the keyword suggestions while applying the same filter options until something does come up.

This sounds like a long process that you can avoid by using commercial modifiers as part of your seed word instead of using them after the fact to filter results.

How does KW Finder work on a normal keyword search?

When conducting keyword searches normally, you will use seed words direct you to the search words that the audience that you intend to reach is using. You will then go on to analyze these search words and probably rank them in order to identify the words that will give you the most favourable returns. Part of this analysis includes the monthly search volume for each individual keyword and the general strength of Google’s page one results.

Using KW Finder, you will be able to key in a seed word first in order to generate a list of keyword options that are related to that seed word. This list will also include some alternative research possibilities that will come up in a way that will give you a different combination of results.

The tool has a built-in SERP analysis that you can use to evaluate the difficulty level of any keyword suggestion. You can also do this by evaluating a viable keyword complexity score. Moreover, you can also manage and filter the results that will come up using the regular filtering options that include search volumes per month and other specific modifiers. In addition, you can also use keyword competitiveness to focus on more specific results.

How does KW Finder fair in competitor keyword research performance?

Competitor keyword performance research is done by taking the competitors sites and reverse engineering their search rankings. In this way, you are then able to see the search terms that your competition is ranking for. This will also allow you to be privy to search terms whose performance has already been proven and validated going by the competition’s performance.

Using this information and based on the assumption that all factors will remain constant, you can the go on to create your own improved content for those keywords knowing fully well that there is a chance that you too will get ranked; if anything you might rank higher on account of quality content.

Unfortunately, KW Finder does not really do much to help you get this competitor information. This is because it does not have an option to key in competitor URLs that would make it easier for you to access this information.

In order to circumvent this problem, you will need to combine the tool with yet another tool like SEMRush, which will allow you to find those words that your competitors are searching for. You will then take this information and key it into your KW Finder tool and conduct a further analysis. This may not be the best solution available, considering how many steps you will need to follow to get the actual results, but it is still a band-aid that can help salvage the situation.

What are the good aspects of KW Finder?

Some of the good things that will get you excited as an SEO marketer when it comes to KW Finder include:

  • The user interface is possibly the most intuitive one available on a keyword research tool in the current market
  • It is pocket-friendly with its competitive pricing in comparison to its competition
  • It is a web-based tool which enables it to overcome compatibility issues
  • It has a strong data collection for analyzing keywords
  • It offers quick and quality customer support that is available as soon as you get on the webpage
  • It is reliable in a way that you can get the difficulty score of any keyword with a simple click
  • It offers multiple choices to research more unique keyword opportunities

What of the bad aspects?

On the other hand, there are some aspects of KW Finder that may unsettle a potential user. Some of these include:

  • It is not the best for researching information regarding the competition
  • Multi-tabbed keyword research is not supported by the tool
  • There might be possible strict request limitations that can be imposed on heavy users
  • The keyword results from the search are capped and this also affects the import feature
  • It is impossible to customize the SERP Checker preview

As part of this review, you will find out from real experiences how this research tool performs in relation to the other available tools in the market.

First impressions

The first thing that stands out when you start using this tool is the user interface. As earlier mentioned, the interface is end-user friendly and it uses a flat design to display data in a way that makes it easy to understand and analyze.

This tool from a first look is clearly designed with the newbie SEO and blogger in mind. This can be attributed to the ease in which it presents data and information that would have been otherwise a confusing mess to someone that is barely versed with SEO keyword research processes.

To confirm just how easy it is to navigate the KW Finder tool, we compared it to other available tools in the market from which we concluded that it is much more enjoyable and seamless to work using this tool.

Research accuracy

It is worth noting that it was possible to find specific search volumes for specific keywords before the Google update that brought significant changes in its wake. As part of this change, closely related keywords are now being combined if the amount of money that you spend on Adwords does not meet the preset threshold. This has drastically changed the information that is available to regular budget users of Keyword Planner in a way that the data that is accessible to them is, unfortunately, less accurate. This has, in turn, made this tool unreliable to use as a source of information.

This situation is different with KW Finder which, interestingly also pulls its search results from the Keyword Planner by Google. The difference in the data you get from the KW Finder is because it applies its own unique internal algorithm on all keywords and this enables it to maintain the same search volumes.

Through this algorithm, the search volumes are not only kept intact but they are also even more fine-tuned than they would normally appear on Keyword Planner.

Advantages of being web-based

Some of the advantages of the KW Finder being a web-based tool include:

  • Ease of access form any computer device with internet connection and a web browser
  • An absence of compatibility issues that can be a hindrance with other tools
  • Real-time software updates that also happen without any hiccups
  • Users are not required to connect a personal Adword account or any other account for that matter for the tool to function efficiently. This sets the tool apart from its more established counterparts while making it accessible to even more people.

The speed of discovering the level of Keyword competition

KW Finder will easily calculate the difficulty score of any keyword based on Majestic’s data and put the results into perspective for easier readership. This is one of the most sought after features in any keyword search tool in the market today.

Using this tool, you will be able to see just how difficult it would be to rank in the first Google page based on the keywords you choose to employ. Going by this ranking, a marketer should focus on keywords that rank from 54 and below, anything beginning from 55 is considered as too competitive with the competition increases as the rank goes higher.

This ranking is also color-coded to make it even easier for one to scan the rankings of keywords quickly with a quick glance. It is important to note that the rankings will vary from one tool to the next so it is up to the marketer to understand what they mean in their case. A quick comparison of the same random keywords searched through the different tool will help illustrate this more clearly.

The one downside of calculating the difficulty scores of keywords is that in case you have a number of keywords to calculate, you will have to do each of them manually. This is because it is impossible to calculate the difficulty scores for multiple keywords at one go. However, competitors such as Long Tail Platinum Cloud offer this feature.

This downside is considerably made up for by the fact that the difficulty score that will be generated by the KW Finder tool is very reliable. This was arrived at after manually reviewing keywords before actually targeting them with the tool. This means that you would still be able to rank most keywords based on whether or not they have low keyword difficulty scores which often lie between 1 and 30.

Ease of evaluating SERP Competition Strength

The SERP checker is used to manually review keyword difficulty and it runs independently from the KW Finder. The SERP checker preview will appear when you select a keyword suggestion in the KW Finder. In essence, it is a first-page analysis feature that works just like what you will find in many keyword search tools that are available in the market today.

A link will be provided at the bottom of the KW Finder preview that will take you to the SERP checker application. While in most search tools the SERP checker is more of a standard feature, in KW Finder it stands taller than the rest.

This is because it is well packaged in terms of design and is extremely easy to digest. In addition, it colours codes the data in more detail than you would see with the KW Finder. From the “Manage Metrics” button, you will be able to get into a whole new set of data that you will then sort through and compare the competition analysis. The data columns on the SERP data checker can also be customized.

While the whole SERP Checker set up is amazing, the value that comes with making it a whole different application is difficult to find. This is because there is no much difference from the preview that is found on the KW Finder interface and what is found on the application. If it was possible for the KW Finder would allow for the SERP Checker to be customized while still on the tool, the SERP Checker application would be in effect left disposable.

However, this combination of the KW Finder tool and the SERP checker preview can be said to be satisfactory when it comes to analyzing SERP competition.

Multiple research options

This is yet another feature that makes this tool stand out from among its peers. The “Autocomplete” and “Questions” research options that come built into the KW Finder will bring up different options for keyword ideas.

The only disadvantage that comes with using this feature is that the number of results that will be shown in the KW Finder is restricted. For this reason, you may have to use external sources to find additional keywords that will not appear in the tool. Some of these options include suggestions. This is the default search option that pulls keywords just like the Keyword Planner in Google. It applies its own unique algorithm to filter the results.

Another search option available on this tool is the autocomplete which works more or less like an autosuggest feature that will try to give you possible options while you key in your query in the search box.

While these features work, it is important to remember that the number of results is limited by the tool. To bypass this, you can always use other tools and export your results, which can be tedious but it’s still better than having no option.

Other than suggestions and auto-completion, there is also the questions option. This feature is used by adding prefixes to your seed word in order to bring up informational keyword results.  Some of these prefixes include where, how, when, which to name a few.

Data aggregation

Keyword research tools are mainly meant to make it easier to find low competition keywords much faster. This can be achieved through data aggregation where all the available data is presented in a centralized location where the user can access it and make the correct evaluation of the viability of any keyword they would want to research.

There is room to improve how this is achieved perhaps through the inclusion of links instead of having Google+ shares and Facebook likes. In addition, while it is also possible to access even more data by accessing the SERP Checker and customizing the filters, the number of clicks that get you to that point is one too many.

KW Finder has effectively found a way to provide a lot of useful data on a single screen without overwhelming the user.

Ease of filtering results

While KW Finder has the filtering options that you would find in most of the other competing tools, one thing that stands out with it is that you also get an option to enable and disable some of the available filter options.

The ability to apply the old filters on a new search query with the quick touch of a button made it easier to save time. It would, however, be much better if the tool made the filters stay on by default so you don’t have to manually do it all over again.

Dedicated live chat support

Having quality customer service is one of the things that make any product or service stand out from among competitors. In this day and age, good customer service is increasingly expected online though unfortunately, not all service providers get it correct. KW Finder is not one of these service providers; they have invested some good amount of time and effort on the quality of customer service that is available to their customers through the live chat support option. This they have in addition to the email and blog options as well.

Your query on the website will be answered promptly, in less than two minutes, and efficiently in a way that you will find absolutely useful.

Possible problems from request limitations

The KW Finder employs a “credit” limit approach that in essence limits the number of data requests that a single user can make. This is quite a deviation from what the other tools offer. However, this is done to prevent the increase in costs that would inherently go up when the amount of data requested goes up.

This limit to the amount of data that can be researched affects the different users of the tool differently as well. For example, the $29 per month package allows you to make 100 keyword searches per day. This may seem fair but you would be surprised at how fast it is easy to blow right through them. Once you have reached your daily limit, you might still be able to continue with the searches, the catch is that evaluating many of the keywords will no longer be properly possible and this is such a downer.

While most competitors such as Long Tail Platinum Cloud would give a monthly quota as opposed to the daily option, KW Finder is still a little more generous with their limit. However, the KW Finder quota may not really be what it seems as it is based on results turned up rather than searches performed. This makes it a lot easier to finish your allocation if you don’t pay attention.

As a professional SEO expert who is well familiar with what they are looking for and does not conduct random searches, it is possible that this may never be an actual issue for you. This is because I may have used up all my allowed data due to the fact that I know quite a little about the “back pain” niche when compared to most SEO pros and so my process was not exactly laser sharp.

For those SEO pros that use this only for things they actually need to know and not batching months of research then this limitation may not affect you at all. Nevertheless, having this knowledge as you carry on with whatever level of research that you will be doing is important.

Capped keyword results

This is the one aspect of the KW Finder that most SEO experts will have problems reconciling with. The tool has a finite number of keyword results. This limit is placed at 200 or 700 depending on the plan that you are subscribed to. What this means is that you can only get a certain number of results for every search query.

Most competing tools will allow as many results as possible for the same query and this is one of the biggest drawbacks for KW Finder. To test this theory, the same query was put through Long Tail Pro and Ahrefs Keyword Explorer and the outcome was 701 and 28,383 results. Just to bring this into a more relatable view; this figure is at least 140 times more results than you get with KW Finder.

The one time this limit on results can be very annoying when you try to narrow your search further as will only be able to apply the initial 200 results. In addition, this cap also applies to import a different set of keywords from elsewhere. This limit may be understandable from their perspective; that just doesn’t make it any less strict.

Tabbed research

Keyword research as explained at the beginning of this article basically involves keying in seed words and using the suggestions that come up to look for better opportunities. KW Finder additionally provides the opportunity to begin a new search stemming from the keyword suggestion born out of the seed word. This may not be all rosy as you will find that you may not be able to open these searches in a new window or tab. A new search will automatically replace the suggestions that you already have. This means that the KW Finder lacks the efficiency to switch from tab to tab without losing the current suggestions.

This approach literally forces you to choose a direction in which to follow with your research instead of providing an option to multitask. While this may not be the worst that can happen yet, many users might find that it slows them down considerably.

Lack of links in preview

This is yet another glaring potential issue with KW Finder. This is the absence of link-related metrics for the results that are shown in the SERP preview. You may be able to see how many follow links follow each individual page, a huge part of this information remain missing.

Some of the information that you don’t get from this page include the number of referring domains. This is one of the most important pieces of information in the process of evaluating the strength of any site. Knowing just how important these links can be in the process of keyword research, it is unsettling to find that a whole keyword research tool would omit them from the SERP Checker preview.

All is not lost in this case, however; you can still gain access to this information from going to the full SERP Checker application as was earlier mentioned. Here you will be able to find extra information by enabling additional metrics. There is nonetheless no way to change the metrics that are shown in the SERP checker preview.

Suitability of the KW Finder

The KW Finder may be one of the best research tools in the market today but that should not be confused for blanket suitability for anyone that would want to use it. That is not to say that it would not hold up in the face of competition because needless to say that would be incorrect.

Some of the people that would largely benefit from this tool include:

  • Beginner bloggers

As a beginner blogger that is just starting out and learning to find their feet in terms of SEO research, using this tool will feel like an absolute dream. This is because of its intuitiveness when it comes to keyword research and it offers fast access to low competition keywords.

Furthermore, the difficulty score will save the newbie blogger from going through the trouble of going for the more competitive keywords by quickly identifying the keywords that would be more appropriate for them.

If that is not convincing enough, this tool lacks in some of the more advanced metric tools that may create the notion that they were intentionally left out to make the tool more beginner friendly. This should not be confused to mean that the tool doesn’t do what it was intended to do effectively.

  • Budget bloggers

For bloggers who want to tighten the belt on their spending then this tool is perfect to use. This is because of its very reasonable price tag with their lowest paid plan going for $29 only and will save you at least 60% in costs per year.

This tool towers above the other keyword research tools in this regard as well. A tidy trick you can use if you are really on the tightest of budgets is to sign up for one month and search for your keywords daily and build up a collection of keywords that you can use for the next long time. You will need to remember to export these words before your membership elapses.

What about high-level marketers?

This includes those people who run agencies and are bound to use SEO tools more than a regular small-scale user. This type of user might find this tool to be quite underwhelming in terms of meeting their requirements.

The only way for such heavy users to get the most out of the KW Finder is to use it alongside other tools such as SEMRush or Ahrefs. This combination will be good for competitor analysis. It is, however, good to know that the paid versions of these other tools will probably run the KW Finder tool out of work.

The one factor that may rule this tool out as an option for heavy duty users is the daily limitation which may not be the least bit favorable for someone with a lot of research requests within a single day. This limitation, in this case, works to the disadvantage of the tool as the go-to SEO tool for agencies.

Conclusion

While there may be some bumps in the road for users of the KW Finder tool, the tool cannot be written off for whatever reason. The reasons why you should use this tool include the intuitive and user-friendly interface. The search for keywords is already hard enough as it is. Having a tool that is easy to use to get this information should be good for anyone regardless of expertise. This is considering the huge amounts of data that it is able to display in the simplest possible way for the user to quickly digest.

Whereas this is not an all-inclusive tool and you may need to have to leave the tool to gain access to additional information like in the case of using the SERP Checker application. This may be a downside if you consider the fact that the competing tools may have this option. This should not take away from all the valuable features that the tool has in the first place.

A few measures can nevertheless be taken in order to further optimize this tool to include even more options. These measures include adding a multi-tabbed research option, including batched difficulty calculations rather than individual ones, and including a SERP Checker preview that can be customizable as well.

Moreover, you should consider using a combination of search optimization tools in order to get complimentary features that may not be available for the free options. For your regular searches, however, you can rest assured of viable keyword search results from the KW Finder software.
