LifeLock Review: Best Identity Theft Protection for Ecommerce Business

LifeLock Review

We live in a digital age where everything and everyone is online. From the moment we wake up, we instantly check our Facebook notifications for updates. Our typical day goes on by doing almost everything through the internet – in reading emails, booking a lyft, watching our favorite shows, and even shopping for stuff. Everything is online, including our personal information. The sheer amount of personal data on the internet is precisely why online data is always a red target for hackers and identity thieves.

It’s not news that the government and businesses regularly face data breaches over the last decade. You might have been a victim of stolen identities without you even knowing. The technology that we have now makes it easier for attackers to access our data. Take social media, for instance, when we use social media, we consciously give away our personal information without knowing what others may do to it. While we trust these entities to safeguard our data, they often prove to be powerless over these kinds of attacks.

The question is, how do you protect your identity from being stolen? Or better yet, what can you do once you found out your identity got stolen?

To protect your identity from being stolen, you would need to control all the personal information that you share. However, if you already have an existing online presence and accounts, it might be impossible since your data might already be on the hands of multiple entities. Add this to the fact that the companies and agencies that we deal with daily require our necessary information at the minimum to be able to engage with them.

So what can you do when your identity gets stolen? Upon learning that you have been a victim of identity theft, you need instant action, and the right solution for this problem is getting an identity protection services to fix it.

In this blog, we’ll talk about LifeLock, a company that offers identity protection services. Let’s go through what it offers, its features, strengths, downsides, and costs - so you get a holistic view of LifeLock’s best solution.

About LifeLock

LifeLock started in 2005 as a business that specializes in identity theft protection. It offers a complete identity theft solution that examines the use of personal data and credit score variations. LifeLock offers several plans that cover monitoring, alerts, and recovery services.

What can LifeLock do?

LifeLock offers three core services: credit monitoring for signs of identity theft, sending timely alerts to update you on any issues arising from your profile, and helping you recover if you fall victim to identity crimes. Put it simply, LifeLock can help you stay on top of any potential stolen identity issues by carefully monitoring your profile. They can trace any alerts linked to you - from credit changes to the more severe cases like if someone uses your identity for crimes.

Million Dollar Protection™ Package

If the dreaded identity theft happens to you, you get the full benefits of LifeLock’s Million Dollar Protection™ Package. There are three kinds to this service: personal expense compensation, reimbursement of stolen funds, and coverage for lawyers and experts.

In terms of the personal expense compensation, LifeLock will cover all the personal expenses that you will incur as a result of the identity theft. For the reimbursement of stolen funds, this essentially means that you will get refunds for the money stolen through identity theft. Lastly, LifeLock will cover all the expenses for lawyers and experts who help resolve your case.

How much does LifeLock cost?

LifeLock offers different plans depending on your specific needs. You can choose between its three-tier plans: Standard, Advantage, and Ultimate Plus. Let’s go through what each subscription plan offers in the succeeding paragraphs. Each subscription plan serves a different purpose, so it’s essential to carefully review each package, so you get the best out of your chosen subscription plan.

For starters, you can sign up for the Standard Subscription Plan, which you can get for as low as $9.99 per month. The Standard plan includes $25,000 reimbursement for stolen funds, identity & social security number alerts, and credit monitoring services for one of the three credit bureaus.

Next is the LifeLock Advantage Plan, which costs $19.99 per month that includes up to $100,000 reimbursement for stolen funds. You also get identity & social security number alerts, credit monitoring services for one of the three credit bureaus, bank account & credit card activity alerts, fictitious identity monitoring, and alerts on crimes committed in your name.

The grandest plan is the LifeLock Ultimate Plus package, which costs $29.99 per month. This package lets you get up to $1 million in reimbursement for stolen funds. You also get identity & social security number alerts, credit monitoring services for all three credit bureaus, bank account & credit card activity alerts, fictitious identity monitoring, alerts on crimes committed in your name, annual 3-bureau credit reports & credit scores, and 401(k) & investment account activity alerts. This Ultimate Plus package includes several advanced features, including - bank account takeover & application alerts, file-sharing network searches, and sex offender registry reports.

Aside from everything that’s mentioned above, each plan also includes the following:

  • Coverage for lawyers and experts of up to $1 million
  • US-based identity restoration experts
  • 24/7 Live Member Support
  • Reduce Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers
  • Lost Wallet Protection
  • Help to Reduce Exposure of Personal Info
  • USPS Address Change Verification
  • Dark Web Monitoring
  • LifeLock Privacy Monitor™
  • Data Breach Notifications
  • LifeLock Identity Alert® System

60-day Money-back guarantee

In case you sign up for an annual plan, you get a money-back guarantee of up to 60 days from the starting date of subscription. This policy shall give you enough time to evaluate if LifeLock is a good fit for your needs. On the other hand, if, for some reason, you want to stop your subscription with LifeLock, you can get a full refund within the first 60 days.

If you sign up for monthly renewals, you will not be eligible for a refund. The good thing is that you can easily cancel your subscription anytime. Upon cancellation, your subscription will not renew for another month, and you’ll still get coverage for the remaining days of the month that you already paid for.

What I like about LifeLock

LifeLock proves to be a conservative choice if you want to protect yourself from identity theft without the need to freeze your credit. It offers a very convenient way of guarding your personal information and monitoring your credit without much effort needed from your end.

Its protection coverage of up to $1 million is something worth considering. On top of all that, you get to benefit from its intensive monitoring that includes a deep dive onto the dark web and even public files. LifeLock’s 60-day money guarantee is also a nice touch for users who are skeptical about signing up.

What I don’t like about LifeLock

While LifeLock proves to offer a rock-solid solution to identity theft victims, there is still room for improvements that will make it better for its users. One of these is by providing the 3-credit bureau monitoring to the lower tiers. Getting a holistic view of your credit standing is essential. That is why it will make more sense if the Standard and Advantage plans include the complete 3-credit bureau monitoring instead of getting access to only one credit bureau. It would also help if LifeLock would offer full family coverage instead of providing add-ons individually, which would bloat the cost further.

Do I recommend LifeLock?

The price of suffering from stolen identity is steep, not to mention the stress it will cause you. If you still think you are invincible to fraud and identity theft, have you thought about which of your information you believe was affected by the Equifax Hack?

Protecting yourself with potential data breaches and identity theft is crucial, so you don’t become vulnerable to these kinds of attacks. While there’s an option to do it yourself, subscribing to LifeLock’s services is the best solution for those who simply lack time to track their credit report and spot suspicious activities continuously.

Overall, I would recommend LifeLock to anyone who is a heavy internet user (basically everyone in the world right now). For as low as $9.99 per month, you get reliable protection to shield you from these attacks – a small price to pay that will give you peace of mind in the long run. Because in reality, the last thing you would want to have is terrible credit over something done by an identity thief.
