Mindset Switches You Need to Make Before You Start Your eCommerce Business
Hey, guys. Trevor here from eCommerce Paradise.
I will talk about the mindset switches you need to make before you start building your dropship business. Keep in mind that you are responsible for all your decisions, which means anything good and anything wrong.
Responsibility and Decision Making
As an entrepreneur, you want to make sure that you are a leader in your business. Make sure that you take responsibility.
Any mistakes that happen, like spending way many ads on a certain day or getting set up with one of the suppliers. You can also make mistakes with your customers' orders, which may result in your customer getting the wrong products. That is not great, so make sure that you can always take responsibility for those decisions and mistakes. That will make you look better, and it will make you become a better Internet marketer, a better eCommerce person. It'll make you provide the best service possible for your customers.
Long and Short Term Visions
The next thing you should do is to hold both long and short term visions simultaneously. You must write out your goals. Ensure that you set a list of long-term goals where you want to be in five years, how much money you want to have, who you want to know, where you want to go, and all the experiences you want to have. Also, how many stores you want to have and how many customers you want to serve. All that good stuff.
Make sure you set long-term goals. It's really important.
Some of my long-term goals are to sell at least half a million dollars for the products every year, reach a million dollars for the products the following year in that same business. And then say that you want to serve at least 500 people to a thousand people that same year. That mindset really does mean a lot to me.
Serving people means that you're providing solutions to problems. So keep that in mind.
Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
You need to feel uncomfortable. It would be best if you got out of your comfort zone.
Whatever that means for you. It could be fear to make video content, writing about something not great, calling a supplier. Get out of your comfort zone.
If that is the scariest thing for you, do it first thing in the day. Don't give yourself time to think about it. If you can't handle a phone call, get on the phone. Talk to a supplier. Most of the time, they won't even pick up when you do. They are actually nice and friendly people to work with.
Learn Continuously
Learning is truly a continuous journey.
Always be on a lookout for great information online. Don't be afraid to ask questions and comment on videos if you don't understand them completely. I highly recommend it, and I will reply back.
You can also read a question in the eCommerce paradise Dropship Secrets Members only group, which is really important. That's on Facebook because that's a group where other students will be able to help you as well. The key here is that I want to really help you.
Another great search engine for information is YouTube. If you ever have any technical issues, Shopify issues, Google ads, anything like that, that's really technical type. Type the question into Google, into YouTube, and see if you can find it.
Numbers Don't Lie
Numbers state facts. I mean, you always have to be looking at your analytics, conversion rate, cost per acquisition, and ad spend. Take that into consideration while building out your website, creating content, searching for new traffic sources, and understanding your business as a whole. Remember that you're going to need to look and research into your analytics to find out more about your business.
Love your business, but be objective.
You have to understand that your business is going to become your life. That is a great thing. You're going to be talking to everybody about it, and it's going to be super fun and engaging. You're going to talk to your customers all the time. We're going to be talking to suppliers all the time. It really is going to become your life, but you have to be objective with it. Don't make irrational decisions based on emotions. You have to take a step back, look at your business from a whole when you have big decisions to make, and think, is this the right thing to do for my business or not?
Enjoy Breaking the Rules
Truly, eCommerce is the Wild West still. It's all about rule-breaking. It's all about doing the things that nobody else is doing or at least doing things that only a few people are doing. I'm getting new traffic sources and getting new suppliers and things like that.
And that's it. Those are the different things you need to keep in mind to have a good eCommerce life.
See you in our other podcast episodes. Take care.
