Ideally, you want to focus on outsourcing the tasks that fall into these three main categories:

  •         Are not in your core skillset as a business owner
  •         Do not move the needle forward in a big way
  •         Are time-consuming and/or repetitive

This leaves you with the huge needle-movers and the tasks that put you in your zone, exciting you and keeping you motivated and productive. This also leave all the other tasks in the hands of people who are great at them and have fun doing them, too. Overall, it equates to greater productivity all around.

Here are a bunch of tasks that you can start outsourcing, depending on your specific situation.

  1.       Appointment Setting – making calls for various appointments that you need to get in the books.
  2.       Calls and Emails – sorting incoming calls and emails so that only the ones you need to deal with go to you.
  3.       Data Entry and Transcription – getting audio and video information in text form for your records.
  4.       Research and Lead Generation – everything from one-off source collection to database creation.
  5.       Conversion Optimization – getting site visitors down the funnel for more sales and bigger profits per sale, without trial and error experimentation.
  6.       Customer Support – honing your messaging to keep customers happy, create a steady stream of sales, and do new customer outreach.
  7.       Inventory Management – keeping items at the right stock levels so inventory flows smoothly without going out of stock or incurring additional storage fees.
  8.       Content Marketing - connect with the right audience and optimize relationship building for growth.
  9.       Content Creation – create interesting and valuable content that shares your expertise and converts to help educate, inspire, and generate leads for your business.
  10.     Finances – a bookkeeper, accountant and analyst to review your financials to ensure your business is in good health and staying on track for success.

How to Start Outsourcing

If you think about it, you have probably already outsourced something for your business. This might be payroll or background checks. So you’re not really a newbie to outsourcing, and that’s good!

Now, if you’re seriously considering outsourcing, there’s a process that you can follow to lower your risk of hiring the wrong person and having to start all over again.

  •  Don’t outsource a task just because you don’t like doing it. If it’s important to your core business, you should keep that close. Consider instead looking for a business partner who loves doing that.
  • Take stock of your business strengths. You need to focus all activities on being the best in your industry. This will guide your hiring decisions.
  • Keep your business values in mind. This is the first filter through which you need to look at every candidate and every marketplace that you will hire through.
  •  Hire one at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed with the process and the time it takes to create role descriptions, interview, and onboard. You want to take your time and really focus on hiring the best person for each task.
