Best Credit Cards for Dropshipping

If you have a dropshipping store and use a credit card to purchase the products you sell, using a cashback rewards card can boost your net profits. Likewise, if you’re a digital nomad, then having a personal credit card that offers some travel perks can give you the best value for money.

Margins are pretty slim when you're dropshipping, so you should make the most of all your business spending. Usually, with dropshipping, your spend categories include:

  • Advertising costs: These are usually on ad platforms like Google ads, Microsoft ads, or Facebook ads. There are some great cards that give very high rewards for ad spend so if your ad spend is high enough, then it definitely makes sense to take advantage of these.
  • Cost of goods sold: these are the products you purchase from your suppliers to send to your customers. Usually these are made one at a time, but sometimes you'll buy in bulk too. If you can use a credit card to pay for them, you should use a reward program or cash back credit card. You can get miles, points, cash back, or even bitcoin rewards. See below for more details.
  • General expenses: Usually you'll have a bunch of random software and service expenses to run your business, not to mention paying your team. So if you can use a credit card to pay for them, then it makes sense to use one that gets a reasonable rate of at least 1.5% cash back and also a card that has no set credit limit so your recurring expenses don't ever get declined, leading to a suspension of your account which could be detrimental to your business. For this category I specifically recommend the Amex Plum Credit Card. See below for more details.
  • Business travel: If you travel for business, or you are a digital nomad and can write off your travel expenses to your business, then I highly recommend you get a credit card that comes with travel perks so you can get the most luxurious experience and best rewards during your traveling as possible. I recommend a few different credit cards for this category.
  • Shipping expenses: If you ship products yourself, or create labels yourself for your supplier to use on your orders, then you'll want to get a card that rewards you for shipping-specific expenses. Some of the best shipping expense reward credit cards happen to also be business hotel reward credit cards from American Express. See below for more details.

I created this article to go over the top business and personal credit cards available in the market and which ones I have had the best experience. There are a ton of credit cards out there, and since you’ll need to get some cards to run your high-ticket drop shipping business, you might as well snag a few of these cards while you’re at it.

Getting the right credit card is easy, but finding the perfect card that will offer you the best value requires research and great due diligence. You need to consider tons of factors to match your needs with the right credit card effectively. With the top selection of credit cards for business and personal purposes, you’ll be sure to get the best rewards and value for money!

What do you think of this list? Have you tried any of these?

How do Credit Cards work with Dropshipping?

It’s just as easy as using your personal credit card! Just enroll it across all your subscriptions like Shopify and your monthly billing will automatically be charged on your card. Aside from that, it will also come handy in paying your suppliers with all your orders so you won’t have to issue checks or pay with cash.

The thing with a business credit card is that it allows you to enjoy perks and privileges that you don’t normally have with your personal cards (Of course, unless you’re a heavy spender). When you use your credit card with business purchases, you get more privileges and benefits mainly because you spend more in purchases.

How do you set up a Dropshipping Business?

It’s not entirely difficult to start a High-Ticket Drop-shipping business. However, there are several things that you need to prepare before you can actually start building it. For instance, you need to decide on a good niche that’s highly marketable and pair it with a reliable supplier to ensure delivery to your customers. Check this business formation guide for more information.

Do I need a credit card for my Dropshipping Business?

Yes of course. There’s no doubt that you need a credit card in running your dropshipping business. As earlier mentioned, you will need it to handle all your cost of goods sold and all your subscriptions on a monthly basis – this is of course to ensure that you’re always up to date with payment since you don’t want to have a down website just because you forgot to manually pay for your Shopify subscription. Other than that, it will come handy in paying your suppliers for every order, which is better than having to issue checks – which can be problematic if you’re a digital nomad or are planning to.

Lastly, having a credit card will come in handy in launching online campaigns especially on Google Ads and Facebook Ads, especially if it gets you more points per dollar spent on ads like the Amex Business Gold and Chase Ink Preferred

Just make sure to always pay off your card in full every month and set up autopay in order to make sure this happens. It doesn't make any sense to pay interest on your business purchases because you missed your deadline for payment or didn't pay the full statement balance due. If your business spends a lot, then you'll find the need to pay off your card once a week or once every day or so. It depends on the limits you get and how much spend you have.

What are the Best Credit Cards for Dropshipping?

The ones on this list are basically the best of the best which can be used in your dropshipping business. However, if we have a top 5, that would be Amex Business Platinum, Amex Business Gold, Amex Amazon Business Prime, Amex Blue Business Cash (or Plus), and the Chase Ink Business Credit Cards.

How to get a high credit limit on business credit cards?

You'll need to have a good credit score to get approved for most of these credit cards in the first place. Once you get your initial approval, you'll get a set limit. With Amex, you can ask for a credit line increase of up to 3x your initial credit line after 60 days of card use. With Chase and Capital One, its a little more of a grey area. But usually after 6-12 months of use you can apply for a credit line increase with a good chance of getting approved.

How to get approved for business credit cards?

Each card provider like Amex or Chase has their own separate rules for applicants, but here is a quick break down of each of their rules:

Chase 5/24 rule:

  • You can only get approved for a new Chase credit card if you have received less than 5 new credit cards in the past 24 months. Some business credit cards don't show on your personal credit score, so those would be excluded from this. Only cards that show on your personal credit score apply to this rule.

Amex 5/90 and 4 max cards rule:

  • American Express only allows you to get approved for one credit card every 5 days and 2 credit cards every 90 days. This rule does not apply to charge cards.
  • You may only have a max of 4 credit cards with Amex and up to 10 charge cards. Some people have reported being able to have 5 credit cards, but thats rare and usually because they've had the cards for a long time.

Capital One 2/6 rule:

  • You can only be approved for a max of 2 credit cards, so 2 business cards or 2 personal cards, and you can only apply for a new credit card once every 6 months.

How to get a welcome bonus with my credit card?

Almost every credit card comes with a great welcome bonus. Some are better than others, and some can be used for travel while some can only be used for cash back, while some can only be used at a specific hotel or for a specific investment.

Welcome bonuses are always changing, but the best way to ensure you get the highest bonus possible is to use my referral links in this article. When you're referred to apply for a credit card from a current user, the card issuer always offers the highest welcome bonus possible.

Some of the best welcome bonuses for travel are on the Amex Business Platinum and Amex Business Gold, Chase Ink Unlimited and Chase Ink Preferred, while some of the best for cash back are the Capital One Spark business credit cards.

Can I get one of these credit cards if I do not live in the USA?

Unfortunately, all of these credit cards require you to be a USA citizen with a social security number. But that doesn't mean you don't have credit cards available for you to get from your country. Do a quick Google search on credit cards for business in your country and you might be surprised to find some Amex or other travel cards available to you.
