One thing I appreciate about Volusion is that they focus heavily on small to medium-sized businesses. Their pricing starts around $29 per month, which is a bit lower than Shopify’s entry point. But keep in mind that you need to look at what’s included in each plan before you make a decision based solely on price.
Volusion includes things like abandoned cart recovery and built-in marketing tools as standard features. On Shopify, you might need to use third-party apps for these functions, which adds to your overall costs. So when you’re comparing prices, you actually need to do an apples-to-apples comparison of what each platform includes.
The interface is straightforward and doesn’t require coding knowledge to set up a store. They have a decent selection of templates, though the variety isn’t quite as extensive as Shopify’s. Volusion’s pricing is $29 monthly for their basic plan, $79 monthly for standard, $129 monthly for professional, and custom pricing for enterprise. Volusion charges transaction fees starting at 2.65% plus 35 cents. So when you’re doing the math, Volusion might look cheaper at first glance, but you need to factor in those transaction fees and any apps you’ll need to buy.
If you’re doing high-ticket sales like what I help my clients with, transaction fees matter less than having the right tools. You’re less concerned about 2.9% versus 2.65% when your average order value is thousands of dollars. What you really need is a platform that handles complex sales processes and integrates with your other business systems.

We need access to specialized tools for email marketing, customer support, review management, and everything else that makes a high-ticket business successful. The Shopify ecosystem just has more options.
That said, if your needs are really simple and you just want to get a store online quickly without a lot of moving parts, Volusion works fine. It’s not a bad platform, it’s just less flexible as you grow.
