GMass vs YAMM 2026: Which Gmail Mail Merge Tool Is Better for Outreach?

GMass vs YAMM is a real head-to-head, unlike most email tool comparisons. Both are mail merge tools built on top of Gmail, both pull contacts from Google Sheets, and both send personalized emails from your own address. The difference is what happens after that first email goes out, and depending on your answer, one of these tools costs ten times the other and is still the better deal.

YAMM (Yet Another Mail Merge) is the budget pick: simple, cheap, and perfect for one-shot sends like announcements and newsletters. GMass is the complete outreach system: automated follow-up sequences, deliverability tools, and campaign automation that turn Gmail into a serious cold email platform. I have run plenty of outreach for my high-ticket dropshipping businesses over the years, and at Ecommerce Paradise the rule I teach is simple: match the tool to the job, not the price tag.

This comparison breaks down exactly where each tool wins, current 2026 pricing for both, and which one belongs in your stack.

What Is GMass?

GMass is a Chrome extension that turns Gmail into a full cold email platform. Connect a Google Sheet, write your message in a normal compose window, and GMass handles personalization, scheduling, sending, and up to eight automated follow-up stages that stop the moment someone replies. It layers on email verification, spam testing, AI spintax for varying your wording, behavior-based campaigns, and tools for working past Gmail’s daily sending limits.

It is the deeper, more capable, and more expensive of the two tools. I covered every feature and the January 2026 pricing changes in my complete GMass review.

What Is YAMM?

YAMM (Yet Another Mail Merge) is a Google Sheets add-on that does one thing extremely well: send a personalized email to everyone in your spreadsheet. You write a draft in Gmail, open YAMM from the Sheets sidebar, map your merge fields, and hit send. Tracking results (opens, clicks, responses, bounces) flow back into the sheet itself, color-coded row by row, which is a genuinely pleasant way to monitor a campaign.

YAMM is hugely popular with teachers, nonprofits, recruiters, and small businesses because it is cheap, simple, and lives inside tools people already know. It is mail merge, done well, and almost nothing more, which is exactly the point.

GMass vs YAMM: Head-to-Head

Ease of Use and Workflow

YAMM’s workflow starts in the spreadsheet: you work from the Sheets sidebar and send a Gmail draft to your list. GMass’s workflow starts in Gmail: the compose window becomes your campaign builder, with the sheet connected behind it. Both are easy by software standards, but YAMM is simpler because it does less. If a complete beginner needed to send one merged email today, YAMM has the gentler on-ramp. GMass takes maybe an extra half hour to learn and pays that back with everything else it does.

Follow-Up Automation: The Dealbreaker

This is the difference that decides the whole comparison. GMass sends automated multi-stage follow-up sequences: write your follow-ups once, set the wait times, and they go out automatically to anyone who has not replied, stopping on reply. YAMM has no automated sequences on any plan. You can manually filter your sheet by status and send another merge to people who did not open or reply, but you have to remember to do it, build it, and send it yourself, every time.

In cold outreach, most replies come from follow-ups rather than the first email. A tool that automates follow-ups does not just save time, it directly produces the replies a manual process never gets around to sending. For announcements and newsletters this difference is irrelevant. For outreach, it is everything.

Deliverability Tools

GMass includes built-in email verification to catch bad addresses before they bounce, a spam solver that tests your message against filters, and gradual send distribution in line with Google’s sender guidelines. YAMM keeps your deliverability decent the passive way (real emails from your real inbox) but ships no verification, no spam testing, and no list hygiene tools, so you bring your own or accept the bounces.

Personalization

Both tools handle merge fields from your sheet just fine. GMass goes further with conditional content, AI spintax that varies wording across sends so a thousand emails do not look identical to spam filters, and an AI HTML template builder added in 2026. YAMM covers personalization basics plus attachments and inline images, which honestly covers most newsletter-style use cases.

Sending Limits

Both tools live under Gmail’s caps: 500 emails per day on free Gmail and 2,000 per day on Google Workspace, per Google’s published limits. YAMM additionally caps by plan: 20 recipients per day free, 400 per day on Personal, and up to 1,500 per day on Professional. GMass can queue big campaigns across multiple days automatically or route overflow through its SMTP server (first 10,000 emails free, then $5 per 10,000), which YAMM has no answer for.

Tracking and Reporting

YAMM’s sheet-based tracking is its best feature: every row shows opened, clicked, responded, or bounced, right where your data already lives. GMass tracks the same events plus reply detection per follow-up stage, in campaign reports inside Gmail. YAMM’s approach is more intuitive for a single send; GMass’s is more useful across a multi-stage campaign.

Pricing in 2026

This is YAMM’s big win. The free plan covers 20 recipients per day, the Personal plan runs $25 per year for Gmail accounts at up to 400 emails per day, and the Professional plan is $50 per year for Google Workspace accounts at up to 1,500 per day. Those are annual prices, not monthly, which makes YAMM one of the cheapest legitimate email tools in existence.

GMass costs $29.95/month or $249/year ($20.75/month) on Standard, $39.95/month or $349/year on Premium, and $59.95/month or $599/year on Professional after its January 2026 price update, with a 7-day trial at 50 emails per day. So GMass Standard costs roughly five to ten times YAMM annually. Whether that gap matters depends entirely on whether you need sequences, verification, and automation, because if you do, the first supplier account or client an automated follow-up lands pays the difference many times over.

When to Choose GMass

Choose GMass when the email is the beginning of a conversation you intend to win. Supplier and dealer applications, like working a brand list from my guide to finding high-ticket dropshipping suppliers. Link building and partnership pitches. Client prospecting. Press and affiliate inquiries. Anything where follow-ups, deliverability, and reply rates determine whether the campaign was worth running. The price gap with YAMM is real, but in outreach the follow-up automation is the product, and YAMM does not have it.

When to Choose YAMM

Choose YAMM when you need to send one personalized email to a list and see who opened it. Customer announcements, event invitations, newsletter-style updates to a small list, internal communications, school and nonprofit mailings. For those jobs, GMass is overkill and YAMM at $25 to $50 per year is one of the best software deals anywhere. Run either tool on Google Workspace rather than free Gmail for the higher sending limits and a business domain that recipients take seriously.

FAQ: GMass vs YAMM

Q1: Can I use YAMM for cold email?

Technically yes, since it sends from your own Gmail account, but it is missing the equipment: no automated follow-ups, no verification, no spam testing. You would be running cold outreach with one email per prospect and hand-built resends. Whichever tool you use, US cold email must follow the FTC’s CAN-SPAM rules: honest subject lines, an unsubscribe option, and a physical business address in every message, which is one more reason to have your business formation done properly before scaling outreach.

Q2: Does either tool have a free plan?

YAMM does: 20 recipients per day, free forever, with basic tracking. GMass discontinued its free plan in 2023 and offers a 7-day trial at 50 emails per day instead. If free matters more than features, YAMM wins this one outright.

Q3: Do GMass and YAMM work with Outlook?

No. Both are built exclusively for Gmail and Google Workspace. If your business runs on Outlook or another provider, you need a different category of tool entirely.

Q4: Which one should a high-ticket dropshipper buy?

GMass, almost every time. The store gets built on outreach: suppliers, partnerships, and link building all run on personalized follow-up-driven email, starting from a market you choose out of my breakdown of high-ticket dropshipping niches. YAMM earns a spot later for simple announcement sends, and at $25 per year it is cheap enough to add without thinking hard about it.

The Verdict: GMass or YAMM?

YAMM is the better simple mail merge tool: cheaper, simpler, with the nicest tracking view in the category. GMass is the better outreach platform, and it is not close: automated follow-up sequences, verification, spam testing, and limit-breaking are the features that produce replies, and YAMM has none of them.

So the verdict is the use case. Sending announcements to people who know you: YAMM, take the $25 per year deal and be happy. Sending outreach to people who do not know you yet: GMass, because follow-ups are where the results live and automating them is exactly what you are paying for.
