Affiliate disclosure: some links in this article are affiliate links and I may earn a commission at no cost to you. Three of the five alternatives below earn me nothing, and one of those is my pick on price. Every figure was read on each vendor’s own live page on 15 September 2026.
Tech Checks is the best documented check printer I have priced, and I have said so at length. It publishes an MSRP and a selling price on every product, a weight for every quantity, a ground and two day air rate for every weight, a lead time on every page and a coupons page that tells you which offers are genuine. If documentation is what you want, you should probably stay.
People leave it for two specific reasons, and neither is about documentation. The first is speed. Tech Checks quotes 3 to 5 business days of production before a parcel even moves, and its $39.95 rush option comes with a limitation most buyers miss: its own rush page states that the first 50 checks of your order ship overnight and the remainder goes by ground. The second is price, because it is not actually the cheapest once you look outside the two brands most of these comparisons cover.
There is a third reason worth naming. Its coupons page prices 50 QuickBooks compatible checks at $19.95 while its top of page product page prices 50 checks at $21.95. Two numbers for the same thing on one website is a small thing, but it is corrosive when transparency is the whole pitch.
So this article is organised around those reasons rather than around a generic ranking. Four alternatives I priced myself, one that sells checks but publishes no prices, and three I could not reach today. Every figure carries its quantity, its part count and its security tier, because a check price without a configuration is not a price.
The Comparison, Priced Against Tech Checks
Standard security laser voucher checks, singles, at the quantity each vendor actually sells nearest 500. Delivered cost appears only where the vendor publishes a shipping rate.
| Vendor | Nearest 500 | Per check | Production time | Delivered |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Costco Checks | $60.19 for 500 | 12.04 cents | 3 to 5 business days | $60.19 |
| Checks For Less | $82.95 for 500 | 16.59 cents | 5 to 7 business days | $99.95 |
| Tech Checks | $88.95 for 600 | 14.82 cents | 3 to 5 business days | $102.90 |
| Bank Checks Plus | $90.39 for 500 | 18.08 cents | Same day before noon | Not computable |
| CheckAdvantage | $116.05 for 500 | 23.21 cents | Within 3 business days | Not computable |
Tech Checks sits third on price and joint first on production speed at this quantity. That is a respectable position, and it is beaten on each axis separately by a different competitor.
Need the whole order tomorrow, not the first fifty checks
Bank Checks Plus states that all standard laser check orders received by noon ship the same day by FedEx, and that it does not charge for same day shipping. Fifty checks start at $19.20 and five hundred at $90.39.
1. Bank Checks Plus, If You Left Over Speed
This is the only vendor on this list that beats Tech Checks on turnaround without charging you for it. Its about us page states, verbatim, “All standard laser check orders received by noon will ship that same day by FedEx. We do not charge for same day shipping.”
Set that against what you are leaving. Tech Checks quotes 3 to 5 business days of production on standard checks, and its rush page states, verbatim, “The First 50 checks of your order will ship overnight with FedEx Express or UPS and the remaining portion will be delivered via ground shipping.” You pay $39.95 and fifty checks arrive tomorrow. The rest follows at ground pace.
If a supplier is holding a dealer approval on a voided pre-printed business check, fifty checks is plenty and that limitation does not matter. If you genuinely need the box, Bank Checks Plus is the better instrument and it costs nothing extra.
Its standard top laser ladder runs 50 at $19.20, 100 at $39.54, 250 at $56.49, 500 at $90.39, 1,000 at $169.49, 2,500 at $282.49, 5,000 at $508.49 and 10,000 at $734.49. At 50 checks its $19.20 beats the $21.95 you were paying. Above that it is more expensive than Tech Checks at every matching step.
Two warnings before you move. It publishes no shipping price anywhere on its site, so the same day dispatch comes with a cost you only see at checkout. And its refund policy applies a 50 percent restocking fee to custom printed products, which every check is. I set out both in full in the Bank Checks Plus pricing breakdown.
There is one oddity on that ladder worth knowing: 50 checks cost 38.40 cents each and 100 checks cost 39.54 cents each, so buying twice as many makes each check dearer. Tech Checks has no inversion anywhere in its ladder, and that is a point in favour of staying.
2. Costco Checks, If You Left Over Price
Costco Checks is the cheapest option in this comparison and it is not close. Its site is operated by Harland Clarke Check Printing, and its home page carries the line “This site is operated by a third party, not by Costco.”
Its Laser Multi-Purpose Check (Top) publishes these 1-part prices.
| Quantity | Costco Checks | Per check | Tech Checks nearest | Per check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $60.19 | 12.04 cents | $88.95 for 600 | 14.82 cents |
| 1,000 | $84.29 | 8.43 cents | $135.95 for 1,200 | 11.33 cents |
| 2,000 | $173.99 | 8.70 cents | no 2,000 step published | n/a |
| 3,000 | $262.49 | 8.75 cents | no 3,000 step published | n/a |
| 5,000 | $435.89 | 8.72 cents | $426.95 | 8.54 cents |
| 10,000 | $880.69 | 8.81 cents | no 10,000 step published | n/a |
Note where it stops being cheaper. At 5,000 checks Tech Checks is $426.95 against $435.89, so the advantage flips at the top of the ladder. Costco’s per check cost actually gets slightly worse above 1,000, which is unusual and worth reading twice.
Shipping is where it wins outright. Its FAQ publishes Business Standard Trackable at 7 to 10 business days for free, Business Trackable Expedited at 5 to 7 business days for $15.60, and Business Secure Trackable Express at 4 to 6 business days for $30.48. Free trackable business shipping is not something Tech Checks offers at any tier.
Its high security line is the cheapest I found anywhere: 500 at $163.69 and 1,000 at $214.49, against Tech Checks SecuDocs at $179.95 and $259.95 for the same quantities.
Two costs to weigh. Its product page publishes a “$25 First Time Setup Fee” for a custom logo, where every Tech Checks check product page carries the line “Free logo printed on checks!” And it publishes a smaller quantity range, starting at 500, so the 50 and 100 check orders Tech Checks will take are not available.
3. Checks For Less, If You Want Every Format on One Page
Checks For Less does the one thing Tech Checks does not: it puts the entire laser check matrix on a single page, in singles, duplicates and triplicates, with no clicking through product variants. Its Laser Business Checks are item LV1, described on that page as compatible with QuickBooks and Peachtree or Sage 50.
| Quantity | Single | Per check | Duplicate | Triplicate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | $30.95 | 30.95 cents | $48.95 | $62.95 |
| 250 | $59.95 | 23.98 cents | $94.95 | $124.95 |
| 500 | $82.95 | 16.59 cents | $137.95 | $178.95 |
| 1,000 | $115.95 | 11.59 cents | $192.95 | $256.95 |
| 2,000 | $203.95 | 10.20 cents | $350.95 | $464.95 |
| 3,000 | $288.95 | 9.63 cents | $514.95 | $684.95 |
| 5,000 | $424.95 | 8.50 cents | $761.95 | $1,012.95 |
At 5,000 checks its $424.95 is the cheapest figure in this entire article, edging Tech Checks at $426.95 by $2.00. That is a rounding error rather than a reason to switch, but it does mean Tech Checks is not the bulk leader people assume it is.
Its shipping scheme is the simplest of anyone here, a flat fee by order subtotal: $9.00 up to $30.00 of goods, $13.00 to $75.00, $17.00 to $125.00, $21.00 to $185.00, $25.00 to $250.00, then the UPS ground rate above $250. Five hundred checks at $82.95 land in the $17.00 band, so $99.95 delivered.
The triplicate column is the genuine differentiator. Tech Checks publishes 1-part and 2-part manual checks and no three part option at all, so if you need a copy for the office and a copy for the customer this is the only vendor here that sells it.
The weaknesses are speed and security pricing. Its production policy lists imprint items at 5 to 7 business days, slower than the 3 to 5 you are leaving, with same day rush at $55 per item for orders in by 10am Eastern. And its High Security Laser Checks, item HSLV1, publish 250 at $206.95, 500 at $286.95 and 1,000 at $384.95, which at 500 checks is 57.39 cents each against 35.99 cents for Tech Checks SecuDocs. Do not move here for security.
4. CheckAdvantage, If the Security Tier Was the Point
There is one argument for CheckAdvantage and it is a good one. Its security features page states that the premium paper on its checks includes “Full Chemical Reactivity: Paper reacts to bleach, acids, and alkalis, as well as polar and non-polar solvents” and “SecurLaser: Surface treatment applied to both sides to maximize toner adhesion.”
Chemical reactivity and toner adhesion are the two features that defend against check washing, which is the attack that actually happens to a mailed four figure payment. At Tech Checks you reach them by buying the SecuDocs tier at $119.95 for 250. At CheckAdvantage they are on the base paper at every quantity.
The page numbers six named check features on top of that: an MP logo, a padlock icon, microprinting, invisible fluorescent fibers, a security screen, and a heat sensitive icon which it marks as laser business checks only.
The cost of that is a higher headline price. Its Top QuickBooks and Quicken Checks publish singles at 100 for $26.40, 250 for $62.15, 500 for $116.05, 1,000 for $157.65, 2,500 for $320.90 and 5,000 for $520.70. At 500 checks it is the most expensive standard option here and 30 percent more than Tech Checks charges for 600.
Two places it beats Tech Checks outright. At 100 checks its $26.40 undercuts the $34.95 you were paying. And its blank check stock is the cheapest anywhere here, with Top Blank Check Stock at 500 for $40.20, 1,000 for $65.45 and 10,000 for $456.60, against Tech Checks blank top of page at $43.95, $76.95 and $544.95.
On speed it is competitive. Its In-Plant Rush page says checks leave the warehouse the next business day on orders placed before noon Central Time, which beats the Tech Checks rush arrangement because it applies to the whole order rather than the first fifty checks. It does not publish a price for that option on the page I read, so ask before you rely on it.
The drawback is the one you did not have at Tech Checks. Its shipping info page states that business product shipping is calculated on the total weight of the order, and its free shipping covers personal checks, address labels and checkbook covers only. There is no published business rate table, so you lose the ability to compute a delivered total that made Tech Checks worth using.
Vistaprint Sells Checks but Publishes No Prices
I almost wrote that Vistaprint does not sell checks, because /checks, /business-checks and /personal-checks all return HTTP 404 and no check category appears in its navigation. That would have been false. Its checks hub sits at /marketing-materials/checks, returns HTTP 200 and is titled “Order Custom Checks Online: Business & Personal”.
Vistaprint offers Wallet Checks, Wallet Trial Checks, Laser Checks and 3-To-A-Page Checks, with an add-on it calls FraudArmor. What it does not publish is a price. I read the hub, the Laser Checks page and the 3-To-A-Page page, and none of the three contains a dollar figure anywhere in its HTML.
For a reader leaving the most transparently priced vendor in this category, that is disqualifying. There is nothing to compare and nothing either of us can check. The one figure I could read is on its Laser Checks page, which carries the line “Need more than 2448?”, suggesting that is the ceiling of its configurable range.
Three Vendors I Could Not Reach Today
These belong in the article by name, because leaving them out silently would imply I had considered and rejected them.
Checks In The Mail returned HTTP 403 to every automated request, on its main domain and on the secure subdomain its link resolves to. By search demand it is the largest brand name in this category, and I read nothing on it.
Carousel Checks returned HTTP 403 the same way, including to a search engine crawler user agent, and so did its sitemap.
Deluxe is the biggest player in business checks and its storefront is down. Requesting www.deluxe.com/shopdeluxe/ returned HTTP 400 with an Akamai failover page on every attempt today, both directly and through our own affiliate link. That is why no Deluxe number appears anywhere above. My Deluxe Business Products review covers the company with the same caveat.
A 403 is bot protection, not an outage, so a person with a browser will very likely load Carousel Checks and Checks In The Mail without difficulty. Read the prices yourself if you go, rather than trusting a table anyone has published, including this one.
Should You Actually Leave?
For most readers, no. Tech Checks at 600 checks for $88.95 plus $13.95 ground is $102.90 delivered, with a stated 3 to 5 day lead time and sixteen named security features documented on the SecuDocs tier. That is a good product sold honestly, and switching costs you the one thing nobody else on this list except Costco Checks and Checks For Less gives you, which is the ability to know the total in advance.
Leave for speed and go to Bank Checks Plus, which ships standard laser orders the same day when they arrive before noon and does not charge for that service. Accept that you will not know the shipping cost until checkout and that the restocking policy is harsh.
Leave for price and go to Costco Checks, where 500 checks are $60.19 with free trackable business shipping, a saving of $42.71 delivered against the Tech Checks 600 pack. Budget the $25 logo setup fee once if you want your company mark on the check.
Leave for format and go to Checks For Less if you need triplicates, which nobody else here prints. Leave for security paper and go to CheckAdvantage if you would rather have chemical reactivity standard than buy a tier, and can live without a published shipping rate.
Do not leave for bulk. At 5,000 checks Tech Checks at $426.95 is within $9.00 of Costco Checks and within $2.00 of Checks For Less, and 5,000 checks is a multi-decade supply for a store that writes tens of checks a year. Buying that many is the more expensive mistake.
The whole decision here is worth about $43. Your store is not.
The gap between the cheapest and the most expensive delivered option in this article is roughly $43 on a multi-year supply of checks. If you want the parts of a high-ticket store that actually move revenue built properly, that is what we do.
Why You Are Buying Checks at All
Business checks are a fallback rail, and knowing that should cap the effort you spend here. Nacha’s ACH network volume and value statistics state, verbatim, “Overall, ACH Network payment volume rose nearly 4.9% from 2024 to 35.2 billion payments in 2025, climbing to an average 141 million daily transactions.”
The three situations that still need paper are a supplier who will not take a card at four figures, a dealer application that wants a voided pre-printed check carrying your company name, and the occasional payment your processor will not handle. That is why every recommendation above is priced at 500 checks rather than 5,000.
The clearing side is worth understanding too. The Federal Reserve’s Check 21 frequently asked questions state, verbatim, “A substitute check is the legal equivalent of the original check and includes all the information contained on the original check.”
Security paper earns its money because the mail is the exposure, and the United States Postal Inspection Service mail fraud guidance is the primary source on how that theft works. This article is general information and not legal, tax or banking advice, and liability rules vary by state and by your own account agreement.
If you are earlier than any of this, fix the order of operations. Read what high-ticket dropshipping actually is before you buy stationery for a business model you have not committed to.
Then choose a category from the high-ticket niches list. Get the entity behind the bank account right using business formation for high-ticket dropshipping.
The work that actually decides the outcome is finding suppliers for high-ticket products, and it is the only item on this list worth losing sleep over.
Every figure above is what the vendor published on 15 September 2026 and check printers reprice quietly, so price your exact configuration in the cart before you commit. Everything else I publish lives at Ecommerce Paradise.
