Grasshopper’s pricing page looks simple: three plans, from $14 a month. The part most people miss is how it charges. Grasshopper prices per account, not per person, so its middle plan costs the same whether one person answers the phone or ten. That one detail makes it one of the cheapest business phone systems for a small team, and one of the easiest to overpay for if you pick the wrong plan.
I pulled every number below from Grasshopper’s own pricing page on 22 September 2026, reading the plan data the page loads rather than the rendered page, because the monthly and annual prices sit behind a toggle. I run Ecommerce Paradise and a high-ticket store of my own, and when a customer is about to spend $4,000 on a single order, they usually call first. The number they call matters.

Grasshopper Plans at a Glance
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | Users | Numbers | Extensions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| True Solo | $18 a month | $168 a year ($14 a month) | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Solo Plus | $32 a month | $300 a year ($25 a month) | Unlimited | 1 | 3 |
| Small Business | $70 a month | $660 a year ($55 a month) | Unlimited | 4 | Unlimited |
Every plan includes unlimited calling minutes, business texting, voicemail with transcription, custom greetings, virtual fax, business hours, reporting, and the mobile and desktop apps. The page advertises “Annual savings over 20%”, and the maths bears that out: annual billing saves $48 a year on True Solo, $84 on Solo Plus and $180 on Small Business, roughly 21 to 22% on each.
The data behind the page marks each plan as not priced per user and lists no minimum number of users. That is the key difference from Quo, Dialpad, RingCentral and most of the market, where the price multiplies with every person you add.
What Each Plan Actually Includes
True Solo, $14 a month annual or $18 monthly. One user, one number and one extension. You get unlimited calling, business texting, voicemail and transcription, custom greetings, incoming call control, business hours, reporting, virtual fax, Instant Response (an automatic text to callers you miss), and the apps. What you do not get is call recording, a phone menu, simultaneous call handling, call summaries or AI call sentiment. The comparison table also shows call forwarding as “Not Available” on True Solo, while the page describes forwarding “to a single number of your choosing”, so treat it as one line to one phone.
Solo Plus, $25 a month annual or $32 monthly. Unlimited users, one number and three extensions. This adds the features that matter for selling by phone: call recording, an interactive phone menu (IVR), simultaneous call handling so callers never hear a busy signal, call summaries, and AI call sentiment. Grasshopper describes the summaries as “a quick recap of recorded calls with the key points from the conversation”, so they cover the calls you record rather than every call.
Small Business, $55 a month annual or $70 monthly. Unlimited users, four numbers and unlimited extensions, with the same feature set as Solo Plus. The extra numbers and extensions are what you are paying for.
| Feature | True Solo | Solo Plus | Small Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| Call recording | No | Yes | Yes |
| Phone menu (IVR) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Simultaneous call handling | No | Yes | Yes |
| Call summaries (recorded calls) | No | Yes | Yes |
| AI call sentiment | No | Yes | Yes |
| AI voicemail sentiment | No | Yes | Yes |
| Voicemail transcription | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Business hours and reporting | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Virtual fax | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Business texting | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| 24/7 support | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Support is a genuine plus. The comparison table lists 24/7 support on every plan, by phone, email, X, Facebook and chat.
The Fees on Top of the Plan Price
The plan price is not the whole bill. There are four things to budget for.
Texting registration. Every plan lists a $19.50 one-time registration fee and a $1.50 monthly messaging fee. Grasshopper breaks the $19.50 down as “$4.50 to register your company with The Campaign Registry and $15 for carriers to review your SMS use case”. That registration is an industry rule for business texting from local numbers, run through the A2P 10DLC system operated by The Campaign Registry. Twilio’s A2P 10DLC documentation is the clearest plain-English explanation of how it works.
Taxes. Grasshopper’s FAQ is direct about it: “All Grasshopper accounts are subject to federal, state, and local taxes.” Grasshopper does not itemise those charges on its pricing page, but telecom bills commonly include items such as the federal Universal Service Fund charge, which supports programs run by the Universal Service Administrative Company. Expect the invoice to come in above the sticker price.
Extra numbers and extensions. Additional numbers are $10 a month each on monthly billing or $9 on annual. On Solo Plus, additional extensions are $5 a month each monthly or $3 annual. The FAQ says numbers can be added in your account, and extensions by contacting support.
International calls and add-ons. Unlimited minutes do not cover international calls. The FAQ says “International calls are not included at this time”, they are billed per minute by destination, and you have to ask support to enable them. The paid add-ons are international calling, a virtual receptionist, digital listings management and Professional Voice Studio. Voice Studio is the only add-on priced on the pricing page, at “up to 250 words for a one-time fee of $75.” International per-minute rates are on a separate rates page.
What Grasshopper Really Costs in Year One
Here is the first year on each plan with texting switched on, using the list prices on annual billing. Taxes are not included because they depend on where you are.
| First 12 months | True Solo | Solo Plus | Small Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plan (annual billing) | $168 | $300 | $660 |
| Texting registration (one-time) | $19.50 | $19.50 | $19.50 |
| Messaging fee (12 x $1.50) | $18 | $18 | $18 |
| Total before tax | $205.50 | $337.50 | $697.50 |
| Same plan on monthly billing | $253.50 | $421.50 | $877.50 |
On monthly billing, the plan alone is $216, $384 and $840 a year. So if you are confident you will keep Grasshopper, annual billing is worth it. If you are still testing whether a business line pays off, the extra $7 a month on Solo Plus buys you month-to-month flexibility.
When I checked, the pricing data also carried checkout promotions, including $75 off annual Solo Plus and Small Business. Promotions change, so do not count on one, but check the checkout before you pay.
Solo Plus or Small Business? The Crossover
This is where people overpay. Small Business costs $360 a year more than Solo Plus on annual billing, and what you get for it is 3 more numbers and unlimited extensions.
On annual billing, each extra number on Solo Plus costs $108 a year and each extension beyond the 3 included costs $36 a year. So the simple rule is: Solo Plus stays cheaper until your extras add up to more than $360 a year.
A few examples. Solo Plus with 3 extra numbers is $300 plus $324, or $624 a year, against $660 for Small Business. With 4 numbers, the two meet at $660 when you need 4 extensions, and Small Business wins from 5. With 3 numbers, Small Business wins from 8 extensions, and with a single number it takes 14 extensions before Small Business is cheaper. For most one-brand high-ticket stores, that is a long way off.

How Grasshopper Compares on Price
Because Grasshopper prices per account, the comparison depends entirely on team size. Here is the cheapest plan with automatic call recording on each, per month, on annual billing unless noted. Quo Starter does allow manual recording, but automatic recording starts on Business.
| Provider (plan) | 1 person | 3 people | 5 people | Taxes included? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grasshopper (Solo Plus) | $25 | $25 | $25 | No |
| Talkroute (Pro, monthly price; annual not published) | $59 | $59 | $59 | Yes |
| Quo (Business, automatic recording) | $23 | $69 | $115 | No |
| Nextiva (Core plus recording add-on) | From $15 | From $45 | From $75 | Not stated |
For a solo owner, Quo Business is slightly cheaper than Grasshopper Solo Plus. From 2 people up, Grasshopper’s flat price wins, and at 5 people it is less than a quarter of Quo’s price. Nextiva’s recording is an add-on with no published price, so treat its row as a floor, and remember its annual price needs a 12-month term.
Talkroute is the interesting one. It is dearer for recording, but it includes telecom taxes in its price and gives you 2 numbers on its $39 Plus plan, so it can win for a team running several brands. I work through that exact choice in my Talkroute vs Grasshopper comparison. For more options by team size, see my Dialpad alternatives comparison.
Details on the Pricing Page Worth Knowing
A few smaller features are easy to miss, and some of them are genuinely useful for a store.
Instant Response is on every plan. Grasshopper describes it as a way to “automatically send a text to new callers when you can’t answer their call”. For a high-ticket store, that is a cheap way to stop a missed call turning into a lost buyer: the caller gets a text saying you will call back, and you have the conversation in writing.
AI sentiment starts on Solo Plus. AI voicemail sentiment tags each voicemail as positive, neutral or negative to help you decide who to call back first, and AI call sentiment does the same for recorded calls. The comparison table shows a dash for both on True Solo.
Extensions can ring any phone. The comparison table says extensions “can forward to any phone number you choose”, so each salesperson or VA can take calls on their own cell without sharing yours.
Voicemail goes to email with a transcript. Every plan can send the recording and the transcript to your inbox, which is the fastest way to triage messages when you are away from the app.
Voice Studio is optional. The $75 one-time fee buys a professional voice actor for up to 250 words, but custom greetings you record yourself are included on every plan. Record your own first, and only pay for Voice Studio if callers tell you it sounds rough.
Is Grasshopper Worth the Money?
Yes, if you have a small team that shares one or two numbers. Unlimited users on a flat $25 a month is hard to beat, and you get call recording, a phone menu and 24/7 support included.
Maybe not, if you run several brands and need a number for each. At $9 to $10 a month per extra number, the bill climbs faster than on providers that charge $5.
Not ideal, if you want AI summaries of every call, including ones you do not record, which Dialpad includes from $15 a user a month on annual billing. Or if you work from abroad and want to call US and Canadian numbers from anywhere at no extra charge, which Quo says its plans allow.
Trial, Contract and Cancelling
Grasshopper offers a 7-day free trial, and the pricing page says “No credit card required”. Most numbers activate immediately at checkout, though toll-free vanity numbers can take up to 24 hours.
There is no multi-year contract: you choose monthly or annual terms. The FAQ says service “is provided on a monthly or annual basis”, that upgrades take effect immediately, and that downgrades take effect from the next billing cycle. You are responsible for any usage charges incurred before a change. Nonprofits and tax-exempt businesses can apply for tax exemption by sending proof to Grasshopper’s customer care team.
Which Plan Should a High-Ticket Store Pick?
Solo owner, first store: Solo Plus on annual billing, $25 a month. The phone menu, call recording and summaries of recorded calls are what help you close and follow up on a $3,000 order. True Solo at $14 saves $11 a month but drops all three.
Owner plus a VA and a salesperson: still Solo Plus. Users are unlimited and you get 3 extensions, which is one each.
Running two or three brands: Solo Plus plus extra numbers at $9 a month each on annual billing, until the crossover above says otherwise. Or compare Talkroute, where extra numbers are $5.
Testing whether a business line is worth it: the free trial, then Solo Plus monthly at $32 until you are sure.
If you are not sure which phone system is the right tool, my Talkroute alternatives guide sorts the main options by the problem you are trying to solve. My full Grasshopper review covers the features in more depth.
A business number also matters before you ever take an order. Brands check that they are dealing with a real business before they approve you as a dealer, which I cover in how to get a business phone number suppliers will accept. The full outreach process is in my step-by-step supplier guide.
The company side, from forming the LLC to the EIN suppliers ask for, is in my business formation guide. If you have not picked a niche yet, start with the high-ticket niches list.
