Two E-Commerce Giants Going Head to Head
Klaviyo and Omnisend are the two email marketing platforms that come up most often when Shopify store owners ask me what they should use. Both are built specifically for e-commerce, both integrate deeply with Shopify, and both have earned strong reputations in the online retail space. The question is which one is right for your store.
I have been running high-ticket dropshipping businesses for over 15 years through E-Commerce Paradise, and I have worked with both platforms across multiple stores. The honest answer is that both are excellent, but they serve slightly different needs and budgets. Let me break down every meaningful difference so you can choose with confidence.
Pricing Comparison
This is where Omnisend starts with a significant advantage, especially for smaller stores.
Klaviyo Pricing
Klaviyo offers a free plan for up to 250 contacts with 500 email sends. Paid plans start at $20 per month for 500 contacts. At 2,500 contacts you are paying about $60 per month. At 5,000 contacts it runs about $100 per month, and at 10,000 contacts you are looking at approximately $150 per month.
Omnisend Pricing
Omnisend has a free plan for up to 250 contacts with 500 emails per month. The Standard plan starts at $16 per month for 500 contacts. At 2,500 contacts the Standard plan costs about $35 per month. At 5,000 contacts it is around $65 per month, and at 10,000 contacts the price is approximately $115 per month.
The Value Equation
Omnisend is consistently 20 to 40 percent cheaper than Klaviyo at every contact tier. The free plan from Omnisend also includes more features like pre-built automation workflows and free SMS credits. For stores in the early to mid-growth stage, the savings add up quickly.
However, Klaviyo’s higher price comes with deeper analytics, more advanced segmentation, and predictive capabilities. For stores generating over $30,000 per month where email drives significant revenue, Klaviyo’s advanced features can generate enough additional revenue to justify the premium.
Shopify Integration
Both platforms integrate deeply with Shopify, but the integration approach differs.
Klaviyo’s Shopify Integration
Klaviyo’s Shopify integration is the deepest in the industry. It syncs every customer touchpoint in real time including orders, cart activity, product views, on-site behavior, and customer properties. The integration powers Klaviyo’s predictive analytics, which forecast customer lifetime value, next order date, and churn probability. For high-ticket niche stores where understanding individual customer behavior drives sales, this depth is a real advantage.
Omnisend’s Shopify Integration
Omnisend’s Shopify integration is also strong and covers all the essentials: order sync, cart abandonment tracking, customer data, and product catalog sync. The integration is straightforward to set up and works reliably. While it may not have the same depth of behavioral tracking as Klaviyo, it covers everything most stores need for effective email and SMS marketing.
Automation Features
Both platforms offer visual automation builders with e-commerce-specific workflows. The differences are in the details.
Klaviyo Automation
Klaviyo’s automation builder is the more powerful of the two. It supports complex conditional logic, multiple A/B test splits within a single flow, and triggers based on predictive data (like when a customer’s predicted next order date is approaching). The flow library includes dozens of pre-built templates that you can customize, and the ability to branch flows based on virtually any customer data point gives you incredible flexibility.
Omnisend Automation
Omnisend’s automation builder is more streamlined and easier to learn. The pre-built workflow library covers the key e-commerce automations including welcome series, abandoned cart, product abandonment, order confirmation, and cross-sell. What sets Omnisend apart is the native multi-channel capability within automations. You can combine email, SMS, and push notifications in a single workflow, reaching customers on whatever channel they are most responsive to.
For store owners who want to get automations running quickly without a steep learning curve, Omnisend is faster to set up. For stores that need complex, highly customized automation logic, Klaviyo gives you more control.
According to Shopify’s email marketing best practices guide, the key e-commerce automations (welcome, cart abandonment, and post-purchase) are the highest-ROI workflows. Both platforms handle these well.
Multi-Channel Marketing
This is Omnisend’s biggest differentiator and one of the main reasons store owners choose it over Klaviyo.
Omnisend’s Multi-Channel Approach
Omnisend was built as a multi-channel marketing platform from the start. In addition to email, you get SMS marketing, web push notifications, and Facebook and Google retargeting audiences all within the same platform. The ability to create a single automation that sends an email, waits for a response, then follows up with an SMS if the email was not opened is powerful for maximizing customer reach.
The free plan even includes a small number of free SMS credits, letting you test the channel without additional cost. For stores that want to coordinate their messaging across email, SMS, and push notifications in one place, Omnisend makes it simple.
Klaviyo’s Channel Options
Klaviyo has added SMS marketing as a native feature, and the integration between email and SMS data is seamless. You can create combined email and SMS flows, segment by SMS engagement, and track revenue from both channels. However, Klaviyo does not natively support push notifications or social retargeting within the platform. For those channels, you would need additional tools.
Segmentation and Analytics
This is Klaviyo’s strongest advantage and the area where the price difference is most justified.
Klaviyo Analytics
Klaviyo’s analytics are genuinely best in class for e-commerce. The predictive analytics engine forecasts customer lifetime value, expected next order date, average time between orders, and churn risk. These predictions help you target the right customers with the right messages at the right time. The reporting ties everything back to revenue, showing you exactly how much money each email, flow, and segment generates.
Omnisend Analytics
Omnisend’s analytics cover the essential metrics: campaign performance, automation revenue, subscriber growth, and channel breakdowns. The reporting is clear and actionable but does not include predictive analytics or the depth of customer data insights that Klaviyo provides. For most small to mid-size stores, Omnisend’s analytics are plenty to make informed marketing decisions.
Email Design and Templates
Both platforms offer drag and drop email builders with e-commerce-focused content blocks.
Omnisend’s email builder includes a unique Product Picker that lets you import products directly from your Shopify store with images, prices, and links already formatted. The builder also includes a discount code block that automatically generates and inserts unique codes. These e-commerce-specific blocks save time and reduce errors when creating promotional emails.
Klaviyo’s builder includes product recommendation blocks powered by machine learning, dynamic content based on subscriber data, and a growing template library. The product recommendations are more sophisticated than Omnisend’s static product picker because they automatically personalize based on each recipient’s browsing and purchase history.
Deliverability
Both platforms maintain strong deliverability rates. Klaviyo’s more exclusive user base (primarily e-commerce senders) helps maintain clean infrastructure. Omnisend also invests heavily in deliverability and provides tools for list hygiene and authentication setup.
For either platform, pairing with ZeroBounce for regular list verification is a smart practice that protects your sender reputation.
According to EmailToolTester’s deliverability research, both Klaviyo and Omnisend perform well in inbox placement testing.
For High-Ticket Dropshipping Specifically
For high-ticket dropshipping stores, the choice often comes down to your growth stage and priorities.
If you are in the first year of your store with under $15,000 per month in revenue, Omnisend gives you excellent e-commerce email and SMS marketing at a lower price point. The savings can be reinvested into ads, inventory, or supplier sourcing.
If you are past $20,000 per month in revenue and email is a top three revenue channel, Klaviyo’s predictive analytics, advanced segmentation, and deeper data insights will help you optimize your email marketing to its full potential. The higher price is worth it when you are making data-driven decisions that move the needle on revenue.
