2. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs has been the other heavyweight in the SEO category for years, and Brand Radar is their answer to AI tracking. It launched in beta in 2025 and went paid in early 2026. For AEO specifically, Brand Radar pairs well with Ahrefs’ existing on-page audit tools, but the pricing makes it tough to recommend for most stores.
How It Handles AEO
Brand Radar covers six AI platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode. The methodology uses what Ahrefs calls “search-backed prompts,” meaning the queries are pulled from real user search behavior rather than synthetic generated prompts. The database is somewhere around 199 million to 240 million monthly prompts.
For the optimization side, you have to lean on Ahrefs’ separate Site Audit and Content Explorer tools, which are mature but not specifically built for AEO. The cross-channel view (AI plus YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit mentions in Google search results) is genuinely unique and useful when planning AEO content because it shows you which non-traditional channels AI engines are pulling from for your topics. Historical data going back to late 2024 also gives you context most dedicated AI tools don’t have.
Pricing Reality Check
This is where Brand Radar gets painful. According to EWR Digital’s pricing breakdown, Brand Radar requires an active Ahrefs subscription starting at $129/month. Brand Radar itself is $199/month per individual AI platform index, or $699/month for all six bundled. Custom prompt tracking is another $50/month, and YouTube and TikTok tracking will be $199/month after the beta ends. Total for full AEO coverage runs $828 to $1,148/month, before you’ve added a single team member.
Who It’s For
Brand Radar is the right tool if you’re already a heavy Ahrefs user, you have an enterprise budget, and you need AI tracking that pairs with deep backlink and on-page analysis. For a Fortune 500 brand with a BI department and a dedicated AEO team, Brand Radar fits the stack.
Where It Falls Short
For most high-ticket store owners, Brand Radar is overkill and overpriced for AEO. There’s no Claude or Grok tracking, the optimization workflow requires bouncing between Brand Radar and other Ahrefs modules, and there are documented accuracy gaps in independent testing. If your Ahrefs plan happens to include free beta access to Brand Radar, by all means use it for directional data. But I would not recommend a small or mid-market store add Brand Radar from scratch when Semrush One delivers the AEO features at a fraction of the cost in a tighter workflow.

Profound is the dedicated, enterprise-grade GEO/AEO platform pulling massive VC funding rounds. They’ve raised $58.5 million in funding and have a customer list including Ramp, US Bank, and Airbyte. For AEO at the enterprise level, Profound has some of the deepest optimization features in the category.
How It Handles AEO
Profound covers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude on the lower tiers, expanding to 10+ AI platforms on Enterprise (including Copilot and ChatGPT Shopping). For AEO specifically, three features stand out. The Conversation Explorer surfaces real-time AI search volume by topic, so you know which prompts to optimize for first by potential traffic impact. Beyond the price, the consistent feedback I see from independent reviews is that Profound surfaces a lot of valuable AEO data but has a steep learning curve and some technical reliability issues. It’s a heavy tool. For a store owner who just wants to optimize 50 buyer-intent pages and start showing up in AI answers, Profound is way more platform than you need.
4. OtterlyAI
OtterlyAI is the budget-friendly entry point in the AEO category. At $29/month for the Lite plan, it’s the cheapest serious option and probably the right starting tool for someone running their first AEO audit without committing to Semrush or Ahrefs.
How It Handles AEO
The Lite plan ($29/month) gives you 15 search prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Bing AI, plus one workspace and 1,000 GEO audits per month. The Standard plan ($189/month) bumps you to 100 prompts, unlimited workspaces, 5,000 GEO audits, and a Looker Studio connector. Premium ($489/month) goes to 400 prompts and 10,000 GEO audits.
For AEO specifically, the differentiator is the GEO Audit feature with SWOT analysis. It scans your site for on-page factors that could be blocking AI crawlers from indexing your content correctly, including content depth, schema markup, structure, and crawl access. That’s the closest thing to an AEO-specific audit in this list. They also have unlimited team members on every plan, which is great for agencies running AEO for multiple clients.
Where It Falls Short
Two things to know. First, Google AI Mode and Gemini are paid add-ons, not included in the base plans. By the time you add the platforms you actually need for full AEO coverage, the price climbs. Second, OtterlyAI is audit-and-monitoring focused but doesn’t include a content optimizer or content briefs the way Semrush or Profound do. How to Actually Run AEO on Your Store
Buying the tool is step one. Actually running AEO is where most store owners drop the ball. Here’s the workflow I walk my coaching clients through.
Start with a technical AEO audit. Make sure your site isn’t blocking AI crawlers in robots.txt (GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended). Check that your most important content renders in plain HTML and not in JavaScript that AI crawlers might not execute. Add proper schema markup, especially Article, Product, FAQ, and HowTo schemas. Make sure your URL structure is clean and your sitemap is current. Most of these are quick wins that take less than a day to fix and unlock everything downstream.
Next, identify your top 30 to 50 buyer-intent pages and rewrite them in AEO-friendly format. That means short, direct definitional sentences at the top (AI engines love these for clean lifts), question-and-answer structure throughout, longer-form depth (3,000+ words on competitive topics), and explicit comparison content where relevant. Use the AEO scoring features in Semrush, SE Ranking, or OtterlyAI’s GEO Audit to grade each page before and after.
Finally, build out citation infrastructure. AI engines weight sources differently. Earning citations from publications, expert forums, and authoritative news sites in your niche is the long-term moat. Pitch journalists, write guest posts, get quoted in industry roundups, and get involved in subreddits where buyers in your category hang out. AI engines update their context faster than Google updates its index, so you’ll usually see citation lifts within 60 to 90 days. This is also why I push my clients to pick the right niche from the start, because being a niche specialist makes you more citable than being a general retailer.
What Most Store Owners Get Wrong About AEO
I see two big mistakes over and over in my coaching calls. The first is treating AEO like a checkbox exercise. People run a GEO audit, fix the obvious issues, and assume they’re done. AEO is content marketing, not technical SEO. The technical fixes unlock the door, but the long-term wins come from publishing better content than competitors and earning citations consistently for 12 to 24 months. There’s no shortcut.

Get the store built, get the suppliers signed, get Google Shopping running profitably, and then layer in AEO once you have content infrastructure to optimize.
