Welcome to today’s Paradise Report. This is the daily news rundown I put together for the people I build with: small ecommerce founders running Shopify, Amazon, and high-ticket dropshipping stores, and the location-independent crowd trying to do it all from Chiang Mai, Bali, Lisbon, or wherever the WiFi is good. Some of you are already living that life. Some of you are working toward it. Either way, the stories below are the ones that actually change what you do on Monday morning, not filler. You can always find more over at Ecommerce Paradise.
🚨 BREAKING TODAY: Google starts auto-linking Merchant Center accounts to Google Ads on June 6, so if you run separate accounts on purpose, you need to check your settings before tomorrow.
Today we have a heavy platform day. Google is making 3 changes to Ads and Merchant Center that hit this week, Reddit just opened a real new ad channel for every Shopify store on earth, and the whole AI shopping picture took another big step with Google’s Universal Cart. On the lifestyle beat, Indonesia and Thailand both tightened the tax screws on long-stay nomads, which matters a lot if you are sitting in Bali or Bangkok past the 6-month mark. If you are still deciding whether this business model is even for you, start with my breakdown of what high-ticket dropshipping actually is and then come back to the news. Let’s get into it.
Today’s Top Stories at a Glance
🚨 BREAKING: Google Auto-Links Your Merchant Center to Ads June 6
Google begins automatically linking Merchant Center accounts to Google Ads accounts starting June 6, 2026, with some accounts also getting auto-linked to YouTube channels after June 10. If you keep accounts separate for clients or for clean data, you have to opt out manually before the switch flips.
Google Ads Caps Data Retention at 37 Months
As of June 1, 2026, Google enforces a 37-month retention limit on granular Ads performance data. Anything older than that drops out of your reports, so if you lean on multi-year trend data for seasonality, export it now before it is gone.
Reddit’s Shopify Integration Goes Global
Reddit’s native Shopify integration is now live for every Shopify merchant worldwide, syncing your catalog straight into Dynamic Product Ads. Reddit’s DPA drove +91% year-over-year ROAS in Q4 2025, and EMEA retail advertisers saw 7x average ROAS, so this is a real channel worth testing.
Google Launches Universal Cart and Expands UCP
At Google I/O 2026, Google rolled out Universal Cart and a bigger Universal Commerce Protocol, putting agentic checkout inside AI Mode, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail. Shopify merchants are in the first wave, which means buyers may soon check out without ever touching your product page.
AI Overviews Now Hit 14% of Shopping Queries
AI Overviews now show on 14% of shopping searches, and AI-referred shoppers convert at 12.3% versus 3.1% for everyone else, based on April 2026 data. The discovery funnel is moving in front of your website, and you need to be in those answers.
Indonesia Tightens the Screws on Bali Nomads
Indonesia’s E33G Remote Worker KITAS requires $60K in annual income, and since April 1, 2026, foreign income reporting got stricter. Cross 183 days in-country and you can be treated as a tax resident, so Bali long-stayers need a real plan.
Thailand DTV Holds, But the Tax Net Tightens
Thailand’s DTV is still a 5-year, multiple-entry visa with 180-day stays and roughly a $13,500 bank-balance requirement. The 2026 wrinkle is a tax-residency crackdown that puts more scrutiny on remittances and foreign income for people who park there long term.

Ecommerce: Google Reshuffles Ads, Reddit Opens the Door
Let me start with the one that has a real deadline attached. Starting June 6, Google is automatically linking Merchant Center accounts to Google Ads, and the reason this matters is that a lot of operators deliberately keep those accounts apart. Maybe you manage a client store and your own store. Maybe you run a couple of niche stores and you want clean separation so the data does not bleed together. If that is you, this auto-link can quietly merge things you wanted kept distinct.
What I tell my clients is simple: log into both Merchant Center and Google Ads today, find the linked accounts settings, and decide on purpose whether you want them connected. If yes, great, the auto-link saves you a step. If no, opt out before tomorrow. There is also a second piece where some accounts get auto-linked to YouTube channels after June 10, which unlocks organic video metrics inside Ads. That one is less scary, but you still want to know it is happening rather than discovering it later. SearchEngineLand and the Google Ads community have been tracking these rollout dates closely, and you can read the deeper coverage on Google’s commerce push at SearchEngineLand.
The quieter change that bit me when I first saw it is the 37-month data retention cap that went live June 1. Google now drops granular performance data older than 37 months. For a lot of newer stores that is no big deal, but if you have been running Google Shopping for years and you rely on multi-year seasonality to plan Q4, that historical data is your edge. Export it now. I keep my own store reporting in a simple sheet so I am never at the mercy of a platform deciding how long to hold my numbers. Google Shopping is still the number one revenue driver for most high-ticket stores I touch, so protecting that data trail is worth an hour of your time.
Now the fun one. Reddit’s native Shopify integration is officially open to every Shopify merchant on the planet. You link your Reddit Ads account to your storefront, the catalog syncs automatically with live pricing and inventory, and you can run Dynamic Product Ads without building a feed by hand. The numbers Reddit is sharing are strong: +91% year-over-year ROAS on DPA in Q4 2025, and 7x average ROAS for EMEA retail advertisers between 2023 and 2025. You can see the full breakdown of the global rollout and ROAS data at PPC Land.
Here is my honest take. Reddit is not going to replace Google Shopping for high-ticket, but it is exactly the kind of cheap, high-intent channel I love testing on a niche store. Reddit users research obsessively before they buy big-ticket items, which is the same buyer behavior that makes high-ticket work. If you have a store in a passion niche, go set up the integration, sync the catalog, and throw a small test budget at it. I would not bet the business on it, but a $20 per day test for 2 weeks tells you a lot. If you are still picking which niche to build this kind of store in, my high-ticket niches list is where I would start. And if your Shopify setup itself needs work, Shopify remains the platform I build every client store on for exactly this reason: integrations like this land there first.
AI: The Funnel Keeps Moving In Front of Your Website
The biggest AI story today is Google’s Universal Cart, which it launched alongside an expanded Universal Commerce Protocol at Google I/O 2026. The short version is that Google built a shopping cart that follows the buyer everywhere. You can add a product to your cart while chatting with Gemini, watching YouTube, reading Gmail, or searching, and then check out with Google Pay. Shopify merchants are in the first wave, including names like Fenty and Steve Madden, and the checkout features are rolling out to more retailers over the coming months.
For us, this is the agentic shopping wave getting real instead of theoretical. UCP enables an AI agent to actually buy on the shopper’s behalf inside AI Mode and Gemini. Google’s own blog lays out how the protocol and the new Merchant Center tools work together, and it is worth reading the official agentic commerce announcement on the Google blog so you understand where this is headed. The thing I keep telling people is that your product data is becoming your storefront. If your titles, specs, and feed are messy, an AI agent cannot represent your product, and you get skipped. This is the same reason I push clean supplier data so hard, and it ties directly into how you find and vet the best suppliers in the first place.
Backing this up is the discovery data. AI Overviews now appear on 14% of shopping queries, and the conversion gap is wild: AI-referred shoppers convert at 12.3% compared to 3.1% for non-AI traffic, per April 2026 numbers. AI-referred shoppers also spend more time exploring products before they buy. That means the traffic coming out of these AI surfaces is smaller in volume but dramatically higher in intent, which is exactly the kind of traffic a high-ticket store wants. We covered the broader shift when Google AI Mode crossed 1 billion users, and this is the next chapter.
So what do you actually do? First, get your product feed clean and structured, because both UCP and AI Overviews pull from structured data. Second, build content that answers buyer questions directly, because that is what AI Overviews surface. I use SEMRush to find the exact questions buyers ask in my niches, then I write content that answers them plainly. Third, keep your email list strong, because when AI eats some of your discovery traffic, owning the customer relationship matters more than ever. I run my stores on Omnisend for that, and the confirmation and welcome flows still print money regardless of where the first click came from. The stores that win the next 12 months are the ones treating AI surfaces as a channel to optimize for, not a threat to complain about.

Location-Independent Lifestyle: Indonesia and Thailand Tighten Up
If you are in Southeast Asia or planning to be, today’s two nomad stories both point the same direction: the visas are still here, but the tax authorities are paying closer attention. Let me break down Indonesia first, because Bali is where so many of you actually sit.
Indonesia’s E33G Remote Worker KITAS is the legal path to living and working in Bali for a foreign company, and it is a real residence permit, not a tourist visa. The requirements are steeper than people expect: you need $60K in annual income to qualify, the permit runs one year, and renewal involves exiting and re-entering. The bigger news is on the tax side. Since April 1, 2026, Indonesia tightened foreign income reporting, and if you stay more than 183 days in a 12-month window, you can be treated as a tax resident. You can read a clear rundown of the E33G rules and the $60K income requirement at The Asian Affairs.
What this means practically is that the casual “I’ll just keep renewing tourist visas in Bali forever” era is closing. If you want to be there long term, you do it on the right permit with eyes open about the 183-day line. We saw the enforcement side of this play out when Bali detained 62 foreigners over immigration issues, so this is not theoretical. The lesson I keep repeating is to keep your business structure clean and your records tidy no matter where you sit, because a tax authority asking questions is a lot easier to handle when your LLC, bookkeeping, and income documentation are buttoned up. I run my numbers through Finaloop precisely so I am never scrambling for clean financials.
Thailand is the other half of the story. The good news is the DTV is holding steady as a 5-year, multiple-entry visa with 180-day stays per entry and roughly a $13,500 bank-balance requirement, so it remains one of the best long-stay options in the region. The 2026 wrinkle is a tax-residency crackdown that adds scrutiny to remitted income and foreign earnings for people who park in Thailand long term. You can read more on the 2026 tax crackdown across Thailand and Bali at EditorialGE. We covered Thailand’s side of this trend when the country cut visa-free entry from 60 to 30 days, and the tax angle is the natural next step.
My advice for the location-independent crowd has not changed, it has just gotten more important. Form your US LLC in a no-state-income-tax state like Wyoming or South Dakota, keep a US business address and banking sorted, and understand your home-country obligations like the foreign earned income exclusion before you assume you owe nothing. For moving money across borders without getting wrecked on fees, I still use Wise, and for health coverage that actually works for nomads I keep SafetyWing. And because you are working off public WiFi in coworking spaces and cafes half the time, run a VPN like Surfshark so your store logins and banking are not exposed. None of this is exciting, but it is the boring stuff that keeps the lifestyle sustainable. If you want the full foundation, my guide to business formation from start to finish walks through every piece.
What This Week’s News Tells Us
Step back from the individual headlines and a clear pattern shows up. Every story today is about control moving away from the individual operator and toward platforms and governments, and the winners are the people who get ahead of it instead of reacting late. Google auto-linking your accounts, capping your data retention, and building a cart that checks out before buyers reach your site. Reddit and the AI surfaces opening new channels but on their terms. Indonesia and Thailand keeping the visas but tightening the tax net. The common thread is that the platforms and the bureaucracies are getting more organized, and your edge comes from being more organized than they expect.
For the ecommerce side, the takeaway is that your data and your product feed are now the foundation everything else sits on. When AI agents and Universal Cart represent your products without your website in the loop, messy data means you simply do not show up. The operators who clean up their feeds, keep their reporting exported, and treat structured product data as a priority are the ones who will get picked by the agents. This is not glamorous work, but it is the work. I have seen on my own stores that the boring data hygiene pays off in exactly the moments a platform changes the rules.
For the lifestyle side, the message is to stop treating the nomad life as a loophole and start treating it as a business decision with real structure behind it. The countries are not closing the door, they are professionalizing it. That actually favors people who do it properly: form the entity, document the income, respect the day counts, and pay what you genuinely owe. The folks who get burned are the ones improvising. Build the foundation once and you can move freely for years. I have lived in Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Bali, and back to the US, and the only reason it stayed smooth is the structure was always handled first.
Put both halves together and the strategy for the next year writes itself. Tighten your data, diversify your channels with cheap tests like Reddit, get visible in AI answers, and keep your legal and tax house in order wherever you are sitting. Do those four things and none of today’s headlines are a threat. They are just Tuesday.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to let Google auto-link my Merchant Center and Ads accounts on June 6?
No. The link happens automatically unless you opt out, so go into your linked-accounts settings in both Merchant Center and Google Ads and choose on purpose. If you run separate stores or client accounts you want kept distinct, handle this before June 6. If you are building a fresh store, my done-for-you store build sets these accounts up cleanly from day one.
Is Reddit advertising actually worth it for a high-ticket store?
It is worth a small test. Reddit buyers research heavily before big purchases, which fits high-ticket perfectly, and the new Shopify integration makes catalog setup almost effortless. Run a $20 per day test for 2 weeks and judge it on your own numbers, not Reddit’s case studies.
How do I get my products to show up in AI Overviews and agentic shopping?
Clean, structured product data and content that directly answers buyer questions. I use SEMRush to find the questions buyers actually ask, then write plain answers to them. Strong supplier data helps too, which ties into how you vet suppliers.
If I live in Bali more than 183 days, do I owe Indonesian tax?
Crossing 183 days in a 12-month window can make you an Indonesian tax resident, and since April 1, 2026, foreign income reporting is stricter. If you plan to stay that long, get the E33G KITAS and talk to a tax professional. Keep clean financials through a tool like Finaloop so you are ready for questions.
What is the cheapest way to handle money as a nomad with a US store?
For cross-border transfers I use Wise to avoid brutal bank fees, and I pair it with a no-income-tax-state LLC for the structure. Walk through the whole setup in my high-ticket dropshipping overview and the business formation guide.
