Welcome to today’s Paradise Report. This is the daily read for small ecommerce founders and location-independent entrepreneurs who want to know what actually changed overnight, without wading through a hundred headlines that do not touch your business. If you are new here, I run Ecommerce Paradise, where I have spent 15+ years building high-ticket stores and helping other people build theirs. Every morning I pull the stories that move the needle for people like us, folks running Shopify, Amazon, and high-ticket dropshipping stores from wherever we happen to be that month.
Today has a real theme running through it, and it is worth naming up front. The machines are getting louder. Meta just shipped an AI ad engine that writes and edits your creative for you. Google’s AI Overviews are eating a bigger slice of shopping searches. And the platforms are quietly changing what data they collect and how your products clear customs. For those of you who care about staying compliant, staying visible, and keeping your margins intact, this is a day to pay attention. On the lifestyle side, Thailand is floating a real olive branch on expat taxes, Vietnam is teasing a long-stay visa, and Europe’s borders got a lot harder to fool. If you have ever thought about running your store from Chiang Mai or Da Nang, keep reading. Let me get into it. If you want the same free niches list I use to vet every store before we build it, grab it over at my niches list and follow along.
Today’s Top Stories at a Glance
TikTok Shop Sellers Now Face Customs Seizure Risk
Since Jul 8, 2026, the CPSC requires electronic filing of Children’s Product Certificates and General Certificates of Conformity before goods clear US customs, and TikTok Shop is pushing sellers to comply. If you import toys, apparel, electronics, or anything kid-adjacent, non-compliant shipments can now be flagged for seizure. Check your certificate paperwork this week.
Shopify Is Circling Faire and Its 700,000 Retailers
Reports say Shopify is in talks to combine with wholesale marketplace Faire, which connects 700,000+ retailers with brand suppliers. If it happens, wholesale becomes a first-class channel sitting right next to DTC inside your Shopify admin, which is a big deal for anyone who wants a second revenue stream.
Amazon and Shopify Now Own Half of US Ecommerce
New data puts Amazon at 35.7% and Shopify at 14% of US ecommerce, roughly 50% combined and up from about 43% in 2021. The takeaway for operators is not panic, it is diversification. Owning your own store is more valuable, not less, as the giants consolidate.
Meta Shipped an End-to-End AI Ad Creative Suite
Meta rolled out an AI creative suite with “brand memory” that learns from your existing ads, plus Muse Image for Advantage+, text-on-media translation in 5 languages, and AI voiceover in 11. For solo operators without a design team, this is a genuine unlock, and also a reason your competitors’ ads are about to get better.
Meta Is Killing the Off-Platform Data Opt-Out
Starting this month, Meta is removing the setting that let users disconnect their off-platform activity, and it is extending those behavioral signals beyond ads into Feed ranking and Meta AI. For advertisers this changes the retargeting and audience picture, and it is one more reason to own your email list.
Google AI Overviews Hit 14% of Shopping Queries
Google AI Overviews now show up on 14% of shopping searches, a 5.6x jump in 4 months. AI answers are increasingly the thing that picks products before a shopper ever clicks a blue link, which changes how you write product and content pages.
Thailand May Soften Its Expat Tax Grab
A proposed Royal Decree would exempt foreign income from Thai tax if you remit it within 12 months of the year you earned it, easing the remittance rule that has spooked nomads since 2024. It is still a proposal, not law, but it signals Thailand wants long-stay founders back.
Vietnam Teases a 10-Year Golden Visa
Vietnam’s proposed Golden Visa program outlines a 10-year Golden Visa, a 10-year Investor Visa, and a 5-year Talent Visa, piloting in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc. There is still no dedicated nomad visa, so the 90-day e-visa remains the workaround for now.
Europe’s Borders Just Got Harder to Fool
With the Entry/Exit System live since Oct 2025 and ETIAS due in Q4 2026, Schengen overstays are now auto-detected. The 90/180 day count runs in the background and the border already knows whether you fit, so fuzzy math no longer works.
Today’s sponsor: keep your home address off the public record. When you form an LLC, most states publish your filing on a public database, and with tax and data stories all over today’s report, your privacy matters more than ever. Northwest Registered Agent uses Privacy by Default and puts their address on your public filings instead of yours, with the first year of registered agent service free when you form. Ecommerce: Customs, Consolidation, and a Wholesale Curveball
Let me start with the story that can literally cost you a shipment. As of Jul 8, 2026, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission is enforcing mandatory electronic filing for certificates of compliance. In plain English, if you import a product that needs a Children’s Product Certificate or a General Certificate of Conformity, that certificate data now has to be filed electronically before your goods clear customs. TikTok Shop got ahead of it with a seller guide, but the rule applies to everyone importing into the US, not just TikTok sellers. You can read the CPSC’s own announcement on the CPSC newsroom, and it is worth 5 minutes of your time.
Here is the part people are missing. At launch, CPSC says it will not automatically reject entries just for failing to eFile, you get warning messages first. But do not read that as a free pass. The agency has been clear it will keep asking Customs to seize non-compliant products, so the seizure risk is real for anyone who ignores it. This mostly hits low-ticket and mid-ticket importers bringing in toys, apparel, and electronics from overseas. It is one more reason I keep steering people toward high-ticket dropshipping with US-based suppliers who handle their own compliance. When your supplier is a domestic manufacturer with an authorized dealer agreement, this is their headache, not yours. If you are still figuring out that supplier side, my guide on how to find the best suppliers walks through exactly what to ask before you sign anything.
The second ecommerce story is a strategic one. Shopify is reportedly in talks to combine with Faire, the wholesale marketplace that connects more than 700,000 retailers with brand suppliers. If that deal closes, wholesale would slot in as a first-class channel right next to DTC and retail inside your Shopify admin. For high-ticket operators, this is interesting because it opens a B2B lane. Imagine selling your niche products both direct to consumers and wholesale to smaller shops, all from one backend. I would not restructure your business around a rumor, but I would file this under “watch closely.” Shopify keeps trying to be the operating system for your whole business, and this is another brick in that wall. If you have been on the fence about the platform, you can start a store over at Shopify and see the admin for yourself.
The third number is the one that should shape your strategy. Fresh data pegs Amazon at 35.7% and Shopify at 14% of US ecommerce, which is roughly half the market in two companies, up from about 43% combined in 2021. When I see consolidation like that, I do not read it as “give up and go sell on Amazon.” I read it as “own your store, own your customer, own your list.” Amazon owns the customer relationship on Amazon. On your own Shopify store, you own it. That is the entire thesis behind high-ticket dropshipping, and days like today make the case for me. We covered a related shift when Amazon moved its card cutoff date, and the pattern is the same. The platforms giveth and the platforms taketh away. Your email list does neither.
AI: Meta Hands You a Design Team and Google Rewrites Discovery
Now to the machines. Meta just launched an end-to-end AI creative suite, and honestly this is the story I would spend the most time on if you run paid ads. The headline feature is “brand memory,” which learns from your existing ads so the AI output stays on-brand instead of spitting out generic slop. Alongside it, Meta introduced Muse Image, its first image generation model built for Advantage+ creative, plus text-on-media translation in 5 languages and AI video voiceover in 11. You can see the rundown over at Accelerated Digital Media.
Here is my honest take for solo operators. If you have been paying a freelancer $500 a month to crank out ad variations, or worse, doing it yourself at midnight, this is a real gift. You can now generate on-brand image and video variations without a design team. But there is a flip side I want you to hear. Your competitors get the exact same tool. When everybody can generate 50 polished ad variations in an afternoon, the ads themselves stop being the edge. The edge moves back to your offer, your niche, and your trust signals. That is good news for those of us who go deep on a specific niche and build real authority. I tell my clients the same thing every time a new ad tool drops. Use it, but do not think it replaces having something worth advertising. If you want a design tool that plays nicely with this workflow, I use Canva for quick brand assets before feeding Meta the raw material.
The second Meta story is quieter but it matters. Meta is removing the “Your activity off Meta technologies” opt-out, the setting that used to let users disconnect their off-platform activity from their account. On top of that, Meta is extending those off-platform behavioral signals beyond advertising, using them to shape what shows up in Feed and how Meta AI answers questions. You can read the ecommerce breakdown at Common Thread Collective. For advertisers, more signal usually means better targeting in the short run. But the bigger lesson is the one I never get tired of repeating. Rented data can change the rules on you overnight. Owned data cannot. This is exactly why I push every store owner to build an email list from day one with a tool like Omnisend. When Meta reshuffles its data policies again next quarter, and it will, your list is still yours.
The third AI story is the one reshaping how customers find you in the first place. Google AI Overviews now appear on 14% of all shopping queries, a 5.6x increase in just 4 months. Think about what that means. On a growing share of searches, an AI answer is selecting and summarizing products before the shopper ever clicks through to a website. Your beautiful product page might never get the visit if the AI does not pull from it. The move here is to write content and product pages that AI can actually read and cite, with clear specs, real comparisons, and genuine expertise. This is where good SEO and structured content pay off, and it is why I still run keyword research through SEMRush before I write anything. We touched on the AI shopping shift when Google’s universal cart went live, and this is the same wave hitting from a different angle. The stores that win the next 2 years are the ones treating AI as a distribution channel, not a threat.

Location-Independent Lifestyle: Thailand Blinks, Vietnam Teases, Europe Tightens
For those of you who run your store from a laptop in Southeast Asia, or dream about it, today has real news. Start with Thailand. Since Jan 1, 2024, Thailand has taxed foreign income that tax residents bring into the country, and a tax resident is anyone spending 180 days or more there in a calendar year. That rule sent a lot of nomads scrambling. Now there is a proposed Royal Decree that would exempt foreign income from Thai tax if you remit it within 12 months of the year you earned it. It is still a proposal, not law, so do not book your flight on it yet. But it signals that Thailand heard the feedback and wants long-stay founders to come back. You can read a solid overview at the Chiang Rai Times, and I would keep an eye on whether this actually passes.
Here is the operator angle I always add. Your visa is only half the equation. Your business structure is the other half. If you are a US citizen running a store from Chiang Mai, where and how you form your LLC still shapes your tax picture no matter what Thailand does. I have said for years that a properly formed LLC in a state like Wyoming or South Dakota, paired with a clean registered agent setup, is the foundation that lets you move around freely. That is exactly why I keep pointing people to Northwest Registered Agent for the formation and privacy piece, because the last thing you want while living abroad is your home country address floating around on a public state database. Pair that with a multi-currency account like Wise so you are not bleeding money on exchange rates every time you get paid.
Vietnam is the second priority-tier story. Vietnam still does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa, so most remote workers there run on the 90-day e-visa. But the country is floating a proposed Golden Visa program with three tiers, a 10-year Golden Visa, a 10-year Investor Visa, and a 5-year Talent Visa, piloting in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc. Da Nang keeps topping the charts as a nomad base, with coworking from around $80 a month and a beachfront that is hard to beat. If Vietnam actually ships a long-stay visa, it becomes a serious alternative to Thailand for those of us who like the region. You can read the current state of play at The Digital Nomad Asia. For now it is a “watch and wait,” but it is a promising signal.
The third lifestyle story is a reality check for anyone who plays the Europe game. The EU’s Entry/Exit System has been live since Oct 2025, and it uses biometric data to log every entry and exit from the Schengen zone. Overstays are now immediately detectable, and ETIAS, the travel authorization system, is due in the final quarter of 2026. The days of fuzzy 90/180 math are over. The system runs your count in the background, and at your next border crossing it already knows whether you fit. If you have been informally bouncing in and out of Portugal or Spain on tourist entries, that approach is getting risky fast. The clean path is a proper digital nomad visa like Portugal’s D8 or Spain’s remote work visa, and you can compare the options at the EU Border Authority guide. While you are location independent, protect your connection with a VPN like Surfshark, especially on coworking and cafe wifi.
What This Week’s News Tells Us
Step back from the individual stories and a clear pattern shows up. The middlemen are consolidating power, and the smart move is to own the pieces they cannot take from you. Look at the throughline. Amazon and Shopify now hold half of US ecommerce. Meta is tightening its grip on your data while handing you shinier ad tools. Google is inserting AI between your store and your customer. Every one of those stories is a platform putting itself closer to the center of your business. That is not automatically bad, but it means the operators who thrive are the ones who keep an owned asset at the core.
What is the owned asset? Three things, and they never change. Your email list, your brand, and your customer relationships. When Meta rewrites its data policy, your list still works. When Google’s AI Overviews change how discovery happens, your brand reputation and your reviews still carry weight. When a platform hikes fees, your direct customers still buy from you. This is the whole reason I teach niche high-ticket stores instead of thin general stores chasing whatever is trending. A deep niche builds real trust, and trust is the one thing the algorithms cannot repossess.
The lifestyle stories fit the same frame. Thailand loosening its tax rules, Vietnam teasing a long-stay visa, Europe tightening its borders, these are all governments adjusting the terms of the location-independent life. You cannot control any of it. What you can control is being set up cleanly, with a proper business structure, a real bank setup, and a store that runs whether you are in Bangkok or back home. That is the freedom this whole thing is supposed to buy. We saw the enforcement side of this coin when Bali started hunting nomads on LinkedIn, and the lesson holds. Do it right, stay compliant, and you get to keep the lifestyle. If business formation is the piece you have been putting off, my complete guide on business formation lays out the whole process step by step.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to worry about the new CPSC eFiling rule if I do high-ticket dropshipping?
Usually not, and that is a real advantage of the model. When you sell high-ticket products from US-based suppliers with authorized dealer agreements, your supplier handles importing and compliance, not you. The CPSC rule mainly bites low-ticket importers bringing goods in themselves. If you want to build on that kind of supplier base, start with my supplier guide.
Should I jump on Meta’s new AI creative tools right away?
Yes, test them, but do not expect them to replace having a strong offer. The AI suite is great for generating on-brand ad variations fast, which saves solo operators real time and money. Just remember your competitors get the same tools, so your niche, offer, and trust signals are still what actually wins the sale.
How do Google AI Overviews change what I should do on my store?
Write pages an AI can read and cite, with clear specs, honest comparisons, and genuine expertise. With AI Overviews on 14% of shopping queries, the answer engine often picks products before a shopper clicks. Strong SEO content, which I plan using SEMRush, is how you stay in that conversation.
Is Thailand actually going to stop taxing my foreign income?
Not yet. There is a proposed Royal Decree that would exempt foreign income remitted within 12 months of the year earned, but it is a proposal, not law. If you spend 180+ days a year in Thailand you are still a tax resident under current rules, so plan around what is law today and treat the relief as a maybe.
What is the safest way to spend long stretches in Europe as a nomad?
Get a proper visa rather than relying on tourist entries. With the EES live and ETIAS coming in Q4 2026, Schengen overstays are auto-detected at the border. Portugal’s D8 and Spain’s remote work visa are the clean long-stay paths, and you can compare them in the EU border guide.
