Talkroute has one of the simplest pricing pages in business phone systems. Three plans, flat monthly prices, no contract. But there are two details on that page that change what you actually pay, and most people skim right past both of them.
The first is that Talkroute prices per plan, not per person. The second is that it says its price already includes the telecom taxes and regulatory fees that nearly every other VoIP provider adds on top. Put those together and Talkroute can be cheaper for a small team than providers whose headline price looks lower.
I pulled everything below from Talkroute’s pricing page on 22 September 2026, including the fine print in its plan details and FAQ. I run Ecommerce Paradise and a high-ticket store of my own, and when a customer is about to spend $4,000 on a single order, they very often call before they buy. The phone line is part of the sale.

Talkroute Plans at a Glance
| Plan | Monthly price | Users included | Phone numbers | Texts per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $19 | 1 | 1 | 500 |
| Plus | $39 | 3 | 2 | 2,000 |
| Pro | $59 | 10 | 3 | 5,000 |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | 20+ | 10+ | Bulk discounts |
Extra users are $5 a month each on any plan. Extra phone numbers are $5 a month each. Every plan includes unlimited US and Canada minutes, local and toll-free, plus video meetings for up to 100 participants.
Only month-to-month prices are published. Talkroute’s FAQ says annual plans are available “if you’d prefer to save”, but it does not list the annual price, so you have to ask. There is also a “New Client Discount” banner offering 10% off your first year, with “no annual purchase required”.
The Detail Everyone Misses: It Is Priced Per Plan
Most phone systems charge per user. Talkroute’s FAQ is explicit that it does not: “Business Phone prices include the user count shown on each plan (1 user on Basic, 3 on Plus, 10 on Pro). Need more users? Add them for $5/mo each.”
That makes the maths very different from something like Dialpad or RingCentral. Here is what Talkroute costs as your team grows, using the cheapest plan that fits.
| Team size | Cheapest Talkroute setup | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 person | Basic | $19 |
| 2 people | Basic plus 1 user | $24 |
| 3 people | Plus | $39 |
| 5 people | Plus plus 2 users | $49 |
| 8 people | Pro | $59 |
| 10 people | Pro | $59 |
Two crossover points are worth knowing. Basic with extra users stays cheaper than Plus up to 4 people ($34 against $39), but Basic only has 1 number, 500 texts and no phone menu, so most teams of 3 should be on Plus anyway. And from 8 users, Pro at $59 is cheaper than Plus with extra users (Plus would be $64), while also adding call recording and reporting.
Compare that with per-user pricing. Three people on Dialpad Standard is $45 a month on annual billing or $81 on monthly billing. Three people on Talkroute Plus is $39, month to month. I break Dialpad down properly in my Dialpad pricing guide.
What Each Plan Includes
Basic, $19 a month. One user, one local or toll-free number, one mailbox, 500 texts a month, unlimited US and Canada calling, call forwarding and routing, video meetings, desktop, mobile and web apps, the Talkroute API and 24/7 support. There is no phone menu on Basic.
Plus, $39 a month. Everything in Basic, plus 3 users, 2 numbers, 3 mailboxes, 2,000 texts a month, 1 phone menu, single-digit extensions, simultaneous ring, live call transfer and hours of operation. For a store with an owner, a VA and one salesperson, this is the plan.
Pro, $59 a month. Everything in Plus, plus 10 users, 3 numbers, 10 mailboxes, 5,000 texts a month, unlimited menus, multi-digit extensions, call recording, scheduled call forwarding, reporting, Voice Studio and a BAA for businesses that need one. Pro includes 5 professionally recorded audio clips, with more at $20 each.
Enterprise. 20 or more users, 10 or more numbers, bulk texting discounts, an SLA and a dedicated account manager. Pricing is by quote.
Integrations are the same on every plan. Talkroute lists Zapier, webhooks and API access across Basic, Plus, Pro and Enterprise, which means you can push missed-call alerts into Slack or log inbound calls against an order in your CRM through Zapier without paying for a higher tier. That is more generous than several competitors, which gate CRM connections behind their mid-tier plans. I did not see a native Shopify integration on the pricing page, so plan on connecting store events through Zapier.
The gate that matters most for high-ticket sellers is call recording, which is Pro only. If you want to review sales calls or train someone on how you close a $6,000 order, you need Pro, even if you only have 2 people.
Want Your Store Built With the Phones Already Set Up?
Our done-for-you builds launch with the phone system, routing and follow-up process in place, because in high-ticket the phone is where the sale closes.
Taxes and Fees: The Real Advantage
This is the part of Talkroute’s pricing I like most. Its FAQ answers “Are there any additional taxes or fees?” with: “No. Talkroute provides an all-inclusive monthly price. We do not add separate charges for telecom taxes, the Universal Service Fund (USF), or other regulatory fees.”
That matters because most VoIP providers pass those through on top of the plan price. The federal Universal Service Fund charge, which supports phone and internet access programs run by the Universal Service Administrative Company, plus E911 and state and local taxes, is how a “$20 a month” plan turns into a noticeably bigger invoice. With Talkroute, the $39 is the $39.
Optional add-ons are still billed separately, and texting has its own registration fees, which is the next section.
Texting Fees and Limits
Business texting in the US now requires registration. For standard local numbers that means the A2P 10DLC system run by The Campaign Registry, and toll-free numbers go through a separate verification. Twilio’s A2P 10DLC documentation is the clearest plain-English explanation of how that registration works. Talkroute publishes exactly what it charges for it:
| Texting fee | Basic | Plus | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local number registration (one-time) | $19 | $15 | Included |
| Local number campaign fee (monthly) | $1.50 | Included | Included |
| Toll-free registration | No fee | No fee | No fee |
| Toll-free campaign fee | No fee | No fee | No fee |
That gives you a small but real saving on Basic: if your one number is toll-free rather than local, you skip both the $19 registration and the $1.50 monthly fee. For a high-ticket store selling nationally, a toll-free number also looks more established. Talkroute notes that extra fees can apply if a registration is rejected because of errors on your side, so fill it in carefully.
Watch the message limits too. They are per plan per month, not per user. Talkroute counts each MMS as 3 messages, and splits any SMS over 160 characters into 160-character segments that each count as one message. A long order update with a photo can use up 4 or 5 messages. If you text a lot, Talkroute’s Bulk Texting add-on starts at $55 a month for another 2,500 messages.
AI Receptionist Pricing
Talkroute also sells an AI Receptionist, currently labelled beta and requiring a Business Phone plan. It is billed per account on top of your phone plan.
| AI Receptionist plan | Monthly price | AI minutes included |
|---|---|---|
| Pay as You Go | $39 | $0.40 per AI minute |
| Starter | $59 | 100 |
| Growth | $99 | 250 |
| Scale | $199 | 750 |
It includes call summaries and transcripts for the calls it handles. The core phone plans list no AI summaries of your normal calls, which is the biggest feature gap against Dialpad and RingCentral. For high-ticket, I would be careful putting an AI in front of buyers who want to speak to a human before a big purchase, but for after-hours “where is my order” calls it can make sense.
Trial, Refunds and Cancellation
There is a 7-day free trial. The terms are clear: “If you cancel a free trial within 7 days of activating an account you won’t be charged a thing.” After that, “Refunds can not be issued after your trial period has concluded and we don’t prorate for partial months.”
So use the 7 days properly. Port or set up your number, test call routing, send some texts, and make a few real calls from the mobile app before the trial ends. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time, and there is no contract, so the risk after the trial is one month’s fee.
Number porting is free for most US and Canadian numbers and usually takes 3 to 5 business days, according to the FAQ. Support tickets are answered 24/7, while live chat and phone support run 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central time on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, from a US team in Chicago.
Talkroute vs the Alternatives on Price
| Provider | 1 person | 3 people | Taxes included? | Call summaries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Talkroute | $19 | $39 | Yes | AI Receptionist add-on only |
| Dialpad (annual) | $15 | $45 | No | Included |
| Grasshopper Solo Plus (annual) | $25 | $25 | No | Recorded calls |
| Quo Starter (annual) | $15 | $45 | No | Business plan and up |
Talkroute’s figures are month to month, the others are annual billing, so Talkroute looks even better if you compare it against their monthly prices. My full comparison of business phone systems by team size covers these and three more providers. If Grasshopper is the one you are weighing up, my Talkroute vs Grasshopper comparison works through the first-year cost of both.
What a Year of Talkroute Actually Costs
Monthly prices hide the total, so here is the first year for the setup I would recommend to most high-ticket store owners: Plus, for an owner, a VA and one salesperson, texting from a local number.
| Line item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Plus plan, 12 months at $39 | $468 |
| New client discount, 10% off the first year | minus $46.80 |
| Local number texting registration (one-time) | $15 |
| Telecom taxes and USF | $0, included |
| First-year total | $436.20 |
Now the same 3 people on Dialpad Standard paid monthly: $27 each is $81 a month, or $972 for the year, before taxes and before any per-message texting charges. On annual billing Dialpad drops to $45 a month, $540 a year, but you are paying a year up front and still adding taxes and fees. Talkroute ends up the cheaper of the two for a 3-person team on month-to-month terms, and roughly $100 cheaper than Dialpad’s annual price, even before counting the fees Talkroute includes.
That discount only applies to the first year, so plan on $468 a year from year two, plus whatever Talkroute’s annual pricing would save you if you ask for it.
Which Talkroute Plan Should a High-Ticket Store Pick?
You are a solo owner still validating the store. Basic at $19. Pick a toll-free number so you avoid the local texting registration fees, and keep your personal cell private. You lose the phone menu, but at one person you do not need one.
You have a VA handling order updates and one person on sales. Plus at $39. The phone menu lets callers press 1 for sales and 2 for existing orders, live transfer lets your VA hand a buyer to you mid-call, and hours of operation stop calls ringing you at 2 a.m. while you are asleep in a different time zone. As a digital nomad I care about that last one more than almost anything else on this list.
You want to coach a salesperson or check what was promised on a call. Pro at $59. Call recording is the difference, and in high-ticket, where a customer might dispute what they were told about delivery or installation on a $5,000 order, having the recording is worth $20 a month on its own.
You run several brands. Plus or Pro plus $5 a month for each extra number, so each store gets its own number routed through the same app.
Is Talkroute Worth It?
Yes, if you are a small team that wants a predictable bill with no contract. At $39 for 3 people with taxes included, month to month, it is one of the most honest prices in this category.
Maybe not, if you want AI summaries of every sales call, because that is the one thing Talkroute’s phone plans do not include. Dialpad at $15 a user is the better fit there.
Go straight to Pro, if you want call recording or reporting, even with a small team. $59 covers up to 10 users.
For the full feature breakdown, read my Talkroute review. Setting it up takes about an afternoon, and I walk through it in how to set up Talkroute.
One last thing. A business phone number helps when you start contacting suppliers, because many brands check that they are dealing with a real business. The full process is in my step-by-step supplier guide.
The company setup side, from forming the entity to getting the EIN that suppliers will ask for, is in my business formation guide.
