Surfshark Free Trial, Coupon and Promo Code 2026: What Is Real and What Is Not

Affiliate disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Full disclosure

Surfshark does have a free trial, but it is narrower than the headline suggests. Surfshark’s own pages describe a 7-day trial on its 12-month and 24-month plans, with $0.00 due today, a card, PayPal or Apple Pay on file, and up to three devices while it runs. When day 7 passes, the paid plan starts on its own.

There is no Surfshark promo code that I can verify, so I am not going to invent one. What Surfshark does publish is a sale price on its long plans, a coupon field that accepts one code at a time, a student discount, a referral program and a 30-day money-back guarantee. That is the real list, and this post sorts out what each item is worth and what it costs you if you get the timing wrong.

I run Ecommerce Paradise from Bali, and I treat VPN shopping the way I treat every software purchase for a store: find out what leaves the card and when. If you are still working out what high-ticket dropshipping is, a VPN is not step one, and I say who should wait further down.

Everything below comes from Surfshark’s help center, pricing page, free trial page and terms of service (last updated July 13, 2026), plus PCMag, TechRadar, CNET and the FTC, as I read them on October 7, 2026. I did not start a live trial for this post, so I describe what the documents say, not what a checkout screen did for me. Prices and terms change, so confirm everything on the signup page. This is general information, not personalized financial or legal advice, and I am not a licensed advisor.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission if you sign up through my Surfshark link, at no extra cost to you.

Test Surfshark for Up to 37 Days and Know Exactly When the Charge Lands

Surfshark’s pages describe a 7-day trial with $0.00 due today, then a 30-day money-back guarantee once the first charge lands. The 24-month Starter plan lists at $67.23 for 27 months.

Does Surfshark Have a Free Trial in 2026?

Yes. Surfshark’s free trial page says you can start a 7-day trial for $0.00 today, with every feature unlocked, on up to three devices at the same time. After the trial you get unlimited simultaneous connections, which is one of the main reasons people choose Surfshark.

The terms need a close read. The trial page says the trial is available on all 12-month and 24-month plans, paid by credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay, and that when the 7 days end the subscription converts to a paid plan and renews automatically. Surfshark’s help article on the trial, updated October 6, 2026, says the same and describes it as currently available to new users through its website.

Two more details matter. The trial page says you enter your email and payment details so Surfshark can confirm you are a first-time user, so this is built for new customers only. And the terms of service say accounts on a free trial have functional restrictions: you cannot change the account email or alter your two-factor authentication settings until you buy a subscription.

Where the Sources Disagree on the Trial

Three details differ from source to source. The gaps are small, but they can cost you money if you guess.

Which plans qualify

Surfshark’s trial page and help article limit the trial to 12-month and 24-month plans. PCMag’s Surfshark review, updated May 22, 2026, says there is a seven-day free trial on any plan, that you must provide payment details and that you are charged after the trial if you do not cancel.

I would trust Surfshark’s own wording over a review. A trial on the monthly plan would also make little sense, since the monthly plan is the most expensive way to hold the subscription. Look at which plans show a trial on your own screen before you pay.

Whether a mobile app trial exists

TechRadar’s Surfshark free trial guide says the trial is available on Android, iOS and macOS, and walks through tapping Start free trial inside the Google Play or App Store app, with the payment tied to your Google or Apple account. That page was first published in 2021, so I treat its steps as possibly dated.

Surfshark’s help article says the trial is currently available through its website, and its trial FAQ says you can get an iOS or Android trial after subscribing straight from the website. Yet the App Store listing I read on October 7, 2026 still says “Start your free 7-day trial today” and warns that any unused part of the trial expires when you purchase a subscription. The trial page’s own cancel instructions also mention your mobile app store settings, so an in-app route may exist, and I could not confirm it either way.

If you do start through an app store, the cancel button and any refund then live with Apple or Google, not Surfshark. I walk through that split in my guide on how to cancel Surfshark.

Which payment methods work

The trial page lists credit card, PayPal and Apple Pay. Surfshark’s help article on payment options also lists Google Pay and cryptocurrency, with crypto not usable on mobile, but neither appears in the trial terms.

The steps in the help article mention only PayPal or a credit card at the payment screen, so confirm Apple Pay shows up where you are. If you plan to pay with Google Pay or crypto, assume the trial is off the table and use the 30-day guarantee instead.

How to Start the Trial Step by Step

Surfshark changes its checkout screens, so use these steps as a map and follow what you see. They come from the trial page and the help article.

Step 1: Pick the plan you would actually keep

Choose a 12-month or 24-month plan, because those are the ones the trial covers. If all you want is the VPN, Starter is the plan I would test first, since the pricing page lists its 24-month price at $67.23 for 27 months. You can compare the plans and begin on the Surfshark signup page.

Step 2: Enter your email and payment details

Surfshark says you can enter the email for a new account, continue with Google or Apple, or log in to an existing account. Then pick PayPal, a credit card or Apple Pay, and confirm that the amount due today reads $0.00.

Step 3: Install it on the devices you really use

Three simultaneous devices is the trial cap, so choose the phone and laptop you work on, not every gadget in the house. Surfshark says all features are available during the trial, so test the specific logins that matter to you.

Step 4: Set a reminder before day 7

The FTC’s advice on getting in and out of free trials and auto-renewals says to know the terms, mark your calendar and watch your card statements, because once the cancel deadline passes you might be on the hook. Put the reminder on day 5, not day 7, so you have time to click through the account steps.

What Happens on Day 7 and Inside the 37-Day Window

If you do nothing, the trial converts to a paid plan and Surfshark charges the plan you selected, whether that was 12 or 24 months. The trial page says the 30-day money-back guarantee then begins, which it counts as 37 days of testing in total: 7 free days plus 30 days under the refund policy.

To cancel inside the 7 days, log in on the website, click your profile icon, choose Subscription and turn off auto-renewal. Surfshark says you will not be charged if you cancel at any point during the trial.

To get a refund after the trial converts, Surfshark says to contact support through live chat and say you are still within the 30-day guarantee. Its refund article says the guarantee covers the first purchase only, a renewal is not covered, and the terms say it is limited to one refund per service. The terms also exclude anyone given a free trial of 30 days or longer, which should not apply to a 7-day trial, but ask live chat if you arrived through some other offer.

The wording on when the 30 days start varies by page. The trial page counts from when the trial converts, while the refund article and the terms both say within 30 days of your initial purchase. If you want your money back, ask well inside 30 days of signing up and the argument never starts.

Is There a Surfshark Coupon or Promo Code in 2026?

I could not verify a working Surfshark promo code, so I do not list one. Any coupon page that prints a code and a percentage is making a claim I could not check, and a code that worked last week can be dead today.

What Surfshark says about coupons

Surfshark’s help center has an article on using a coupon code, updated October 3, 2026. It says only one coupon code can be used at a time, and that you enter it in the coupon field on the plans and pricing page, press apply and look for a coupon applied confirmation.

The pricing page footnote adds that pricing may vary depending on the currency you use, VAT and applied coupons. Neither page says whether a code stacks on top of the long-plan sale price, and I could not find a statement either way.

How coupon pages make their money

The same FTC article notes that companies hire affiliate marketers who are paid when you click, and that some publish exaggerated or misleading claims to get the click. I am an affiliate too, which is why the disclosure sits near the top and why I would rather tell you a code is unverified than dress one up.

Treat any code page, including this one, as a place to learn the rules, not as a source of a guaranteed discount. The numbers that matter are the ones on your own checkout screen.

How to test any code in two minutes

If someone hands you a code, this is how I would check it before paying:

  1. Open the plans and pricing page in a fresh window, pick the plan and write down the total before any code.
  2. Enter the code in the coupon field, press apply and look for the coupon applied message.
  3. Compare the new total with the one you wrote down, and drop the code if the price did not fall.
  4. Check that the term is still the 12-month or 24-month plan you wanted, not a shorter one.
  5. Remember what renews: Surfshark’s terms say an introductory deal covers the first term, and the renewal price is the standard non-introductory rate.

Afraid of Being Charged When the Trial Ends? Put the Reminder in Before You Start

Surfshark says you will not be charged if you turn off auto-renewal at any point during the 7 days, and that the 30-day money-back guarantee applies once the first charge lands.

The Discounts Surfshark Actually Publishes

Here is what I could confirm from Surfshark’s own pages, with the catch for each one.

The long-plan sale price

The pricing page shows the 24-month plans at 85 percent off for Starter and One and 79 percent off for One+, each with 3 extra months. Those percentages are measured against 27 months bought one month at a time: $444.15 for Starter, which is 27 times $16.45.

That is true arithmetic against a price nobody pays. Judge the deal by the $67.23 you actually pay for Starter and by the renewal that follows, not by the struck-through number.

Student and graduate discounts

Surfshark’s student page sends you to Student Beans: register or log in, verify your student status, pick a subscription length and claim a code at checkout. A graduate discount page also exists and says you verify and claim through click-through offers. I could not read a percentage on either page, so compare the verified price with the sale price before you assume it is better.

Refer and Earn

The referral program is for existing subscribers. You invite a new subscriber, and after they stay subscribed for 31 days you choose free months or, where available, a commission that lands in your Surfshark wallet and pays out to PayPal.

Surfshark’s referral FAQ says a friend on a 12-month or 24-month plan gives both of you 3 free months, that the current commission rate is 20 percent of the friend’s initial purchase, and that cash payouts need a $25 wallet balance. I could not confirm whether the referral months stack on top of the 3 extra months already built into the long plans.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Surfshark already has Black Friday and Cyber Monday landing pages live in early October, though their titles still say 2025. The version I could read showed a price-loading error, no percentage and no dates, so I cannot tell you what the deal will be. If you are not in a hurry, check those pages again in late November rather than guessing now.

What You Pay After the Trial

A trial is only useful if you know what it turns into. These are the numbers as I read them on October 7, 2026, before tax.

Plan First term (24 months plus 3 free) Monthly rate shown Renews at, per year
Starter $67.23 $2.49 $79
One $75.33 $2.79 $99
One+ $121.23 $4.49 $119

The $79 Starter renewal shows up in Surfshark’s own US pricing data and in CNET’s Surfshark review, updated September 30, 2025, which calls it a 33 percent bump over the previous $60 annual rate. The $99 One and $119 One+ renewals appear in the same Surfshark US pricing data, which I re-read on October 7, 2026, but I found no second source for them, so confirm them at checkout.

Surfshark’s terms say it may run A/B price testing and that displayed renewal prices may be part of it. They also say it emails you about an upcoming renewal 30 days before the end date on plans longer than one month, which is a useful backstop but not a substitute for your own reminder.

Sources conflict on the first-term price. PCMag lists the two-year Starter at $53.73 for 27 months and the annual plan at $47.85 for 15 months, while the pricing page I read lists $67.23 and the pricing data lists $50.85 for the 12-month plan. PCMag itself says promotional rates change frequently, and that would fit with Surfshark’s A/B testing note, but I cannot confirm the cause.

The monthly price conflicts too. PCMag quotes $15.45 for Starter, while TechRadar’s deal widget and the sale-page math both give $16.45. Use the number your checkout shows, and see which one you get on the Surfshark pricing page.

Real-Cost Scenarios for the Trial

This is my own arithmetic from the list prices above, before tax, to show where the money lands. They are illustrations, not quotes.

Scenario What happens What you pay
Trial on 24-month Starter, cancel on day 5 Auto-renewal off inside the 7 days $0
Trial, forget, ask for a refund on day 20 Charged $67.23, then request a refund through live chat $67.23 up front, refunded if approved
Trial, keep it, renew once $67.23 for 27 months, then $79 for a year $146.23 over 39 months, about $3.75 a month
Skip the trial, buy 3 months of monthly Starter 3 x $16.45 $49.35 ($46.35 at PCMag’s $15.45)
Monthly Starter for 27 months 27 x $16.45 $444.15

Two lessons sit in that table. For a short need, three monthly payments totaling $49.35 do cost less than the $67.23 long plan, but the trial plus the 30-day guarantee can cover the same weeks for $0 if the refund is approved. And the monthly plan is the expensive way to stay: 27 months of it is more than six times the long plan.

Trial or Money-Back Guarantee: Which One to Use

If you can use the trial, use it first. You pay nothing today, and Surfshark says the 30-day guarantee still applies after conversion, so the two stack into the 37 days.

Use the guarantee instead if your payment method is not on the trial list or you want to test more than three devices at once. TechRadar says you can try Surfshark on any platform through the guarantee, and then cancel before the 30 days are up if you want your money back. Surfshark’s refund article lists exceptions: renewals, a second refund, unauthorized resellers, and the Dedicated IP and Alternative ID add-ons. The terms add that prepaid and gift cards are not refunded.

Whichever route you pick, spend the first week on the logins that matter to your store. Open your business bank, your payment processor and your supplier dealer portals, which is the application process in my guide to finding suppliers for high-ticket dropshipping.

A VPN that connects but breaks one of those logins is not worth keeping at any price. If you keep it, my guide to setting up Surfshark across every device covers where it usually ends up.

Who Should Skip the Code Hunt

A VPN solves an access and privacy problem, not a sales problem. If you live in the US, sell from one location and have no supplier portal or bank that blocks you, the best use of your attention is deciding what you sell, and my high-ticket niches list is free.

Skip the hunt for a code if the sale price already fits your budget. A hypothetical 10 percent code would take $6.72 off a $67.23 plan, which is not worth an hour of searching, and you still would not know what the renewal does.

Start the trial now if you work from abroad, from public Wi-Fi or from a connection that some portals dislike, and you can spend the week testing real logins. If the tool will be a business expense, keep the receipt under the right entity, and my guide to business formation for high-ticket dropshipping explains why separating business and personal spending matters. Ask an accountant how to treat any software cost.

How Surfshark’s Rivals Handle Refunds

If a 7-day trial that needs a card does not appeal, the other route is a longer refund window. I read each company’s own page on October 7, 2026, and I did not verify any rival trial terms, so confirm those on the signup page.

Service Refund window I could confirm Note
NordVPN 30-day money-back guarantee on its pricing page Same length as Surfshark
ExpressVPN 30-day money-back guarantee for new users, per its pricing page Same length as Surfshark
CyberGhost 45 days on longer plans, 14 days on the monthly plan The longest window here
Mullvad 14-day money-back guarantee on its pricing page (cash payments excluded) CNET describes it as 5 euros a month with no automatic renewal; no trial terms checked

My longer lineup is Surfshark alternatives for 2026. The head-to-head with the premium option is in my Surfshark vs NordVPN comparison. Since I did not check rival trial terms, the refund window is the number to compare, and it is the real safety net in this category.

My Verdict on the Surfshark Free Trial and Coupons

The free trial is real, short and fair if you treat it as a test with a deadline. Seven days, $0.00 today and a 30-day guarantee after the first charge are good terms, and the traps are the card on file, the automatic conversion and the 3-device cap.

The coupon is the weaker story. Surfshark documents a coupon field and a one-code-at-a-time rule, but publishes no code, so I would test any code you are handed and otherwise buy at the listed sale price. If I were starting today I would take the 24-month plan through the Surfshark trial link, put the reminder in on day 5 and put a second one on the calendar two months before the term ends.

If you would like a second opinion on which tools your store really needs, my coaching is the place to ask. My free mini course is a good first step if you are earlier than that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Surfshark have a free trial?
Yes. At the time of writing (October 2026), Surfshark describes a 7-day free trial for new users on its 12-month and 24-month plans, with $0.00 due today and up to 3 devices. You can start the Surfshark trial and confirm the terms on the signup screen.

Is there a working Surfshark promo code?
I could not verify any, so I do not list one. Surfshark’s help center says only one coupon code can be used at a time, and your checkout total should visibly change after you press apply. If it does not, remove the code and buy at the listed price.

Can I get the Surfshark free trial on my phone?
Sources conflict. Surfshark says the trial is available through its website and works on any device, while TechRadar describes starting it inside the Android and iOS apps, and the App Store listing mentions a 7-day trial. Check which route your own screen offers, and remember app store purchases are cancelled and refunded through Apple or Google.

Do I need a credit card for the Surfshark free trial?
You need a payment method on file. Surfshark’s trial page lists credit card, PayPal or Apple Pay, and PCMag notes that you must provide payment details and are charged if you do not cancel. No source I read described a no-card trial.

What happens if I do not cancel before day 7?
The trial converts to a paid plan and Surfshark charges the plan you chose. The 30-day money-back guarantee then applies, and you request a refund through live chat, but a later renewal is not covered. Put the reminder on day 5 to be safe.
