Perplexity has a free plan, a Pro plan at $17 a month when billed annually, a Max plan at $200 a month, and Enterprise Pro seats from $40 a month. It is a search-first assistant, so the plans are built around research, citations and how much you use it, not around chat length. I pulled the figures below from Perplexity’s own pricing page and help center in October 2026, and where a page does not show a number I say so instead of guessing.

I’m writing this for store owners at Ecommerce Paradise, so I look at what each plan costs when you use it for supplier research, competitor checks and product sourcing. If you are still deciding what to sell, start with my guide to what high-ticket dropshipping is before you pay for any research tool. Some links below are affiliate links, so I may earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you.

Test the Free Plan Before You Pay for Pro

Perplexity costs $0 to start, and Pro is $17 a month on annual billing. Run your real supplier and competitor questions on the free plan first, then upgrade only if the limits get in your way.

Perplexity Pricing at a Glance

This table covers the plans Perplexity lists. Prices are in US dollars, and “not shown” means the pages I read did not list a figure.

Plan Monthly price Annual price Usage Best for
Free $0 Not applicable Limited daily usage Testing it on real questions
Education Pro $10 (verified students and educators) Not shown Unlimited Pro Searches Students
Pro Not shown $17 a month, billed annually Extended research and uploads Regular use by one person
Max $200 $2,000 (about $167 a month) Highest limits Heavy daily users
Enterprise Pro From $40 per seat $400 per seat Increased daily uploads Small teams
Enterprise Max Not shown Not shown Extended limits Larger companies

The sticker prices look simple, but the gap between the $17 and $200 plans is wide. The usage rules and bonus credits are where the plans really differ.

The Free Plan

The free plan costs $0 and includes search with citations, limited daily usage and access to basic AI models, according to Perplexity’s pricing page. Perplexity’s plan comparison article adds that Pro Searches are very limited and file uploads are limited on this tier.

The same article says the free plan has no advanced AI models, image generation or premium support. That is a real limit if you want to compare several models on one question.

For a new store owner, the free plan is enough to check a supplier’s reputation, look up a product spec or find which brands sell in a niche. If you hit the limit every day, that is your signal that a paid plan would earn its keep.

Perplexity Pro: $17 a Month on Annual Billing

Pro is shown at $17 a month when billed annually, and the monthly rate is not shown on the pages I could read. Check the live page before you buy if you plan to pay month to month.

The pricing page lists expanded Computer access, 4,000 bonus credits, Deep Research, access to top AI models, model selection, document and app creation, and higher usage limits and memory. Its FAQ adds premium data sources such as PitchBook and Statista.

The help center also lists extended Pro Search, image and video generation, higher upload limits and up to 50 file uploads per project. That upload limit matters if you feed it supplier catalogs or price sheets.

Pro is the plan I would start most solo store owners on. If you are comparing assistants at a similar price, my guide to ChatGPT pricing shows what its $20 Plus plan includes. My Gemini pricing guide covers Google’s $19.99 Pro plan.

Put Your Research Into a Live Store

Supplier research only pays off once there is a store selling the products you found. Shopify is the platform I point store owners to.

Education Pro: $10 a Month for Students

Perplexity lists Education Pro at $10 a month with verification through SheerID. It includes everything in Pro, plus Perplexity Computer, Learn Mode, unlimited Pro Searches and education-specific tips.

It is offered to verified students and educators at a discount. If you qualify, it is the cheapest route to the paid features, but you need to pass the verification first.

Perplexity Max: $200 a Month

Max is $200 a month, or $2,000 a year, according to Perplexity’s Max help article. The pricing page shows the annual version as $167 a month billed annually, which is the same $2,000 divided by twelve.

Max includes everything in Pro, plus 35,000 bonus credits, 10,000 monthly credits and the highest usage limits and memory. It also adds the Max Assistant on Comet, Brain in research preview, extended Create files and apps limits and priority support.

Annual billing saves $400 a year, since twelve months at $200 is $2,400. The help article notes that annual billing is only available in the web app.

That is a big jump in price from Pro. Unless you do hours of research every day, you probably do not need Max. A store owner who vets suppliers and checks competitors a few times a week will usually fit inside Pro.

Perplexity Enterprise: Seats for a Team

Enterprise Pro starts at $40 per seat per month, or $400 per seat per year, according to the help center. Eligible educational institutions and nonprofits can get it at $30 per seat per month or $300 per seat per year if they apply through Perplexity Support.

It includes all Pro features, plus trust center access, data that is never used for training, seat management, shared Projects and internal knowledge search. You also get increased daily uploads, dedicated support and admin-managed billing.

Enterprise Max adds extended Create and Research limits, 15 videos per month, SCIM, audit logs, configurable data retention and 10,000 files in My Files. Its price is not shown on the pages I read.

For most small stores, an enterprise plan only makes sense when a second person needs a seat. If you hire a virtual assistant through OnlineJobs.ph, compare a seat against sharing one login before you commit, and check the terms first, since shared logins may break the rules.

Perplexity API Pricing for Developers

Most store owners never touch the API, but it matters if you build research into an app or automation. Perplexity’s API pricing documentation lists the Search API at $5.00 per 1,000 requests, or $1.00 per 1,000 with Fast Search.

Billing is per successful request, and an array of up to five queries counts as one billing unit. Invalid, rate-limited and failed requests are not billed.

The model catalog on the models page lists prices per 1 million tokens. Kimi K3 is $3.00 input and $15.00 output, GLM 5.3 is $1.40 and $4.40, GLM 5.3 Flash is $0.15 and $0.50, and DeepSeek V4 Pro is $1.32 and $3.96.

I did not find prices for the Sonar models on the pages I read, so check the live catalog for those.

A Worked Example: What a Small Store Team Pays

These are my own calculations from the listed prices, not figures from Perplexity. Say the team is you, a virtual assistant and a part-time sourcing person.

Three Pro plans at $17 a month on annual billing cost 3 x $17 x 12, or $612 a year. Three Enterprise Pro seats billed annually cost 3 x $400, or $1,200 a year, and the same seats billed monthly cost 3 x $40 x 12, or $1,440.

So the shared admin and data controls of Enterprise Pro cost about $588 more a year than three Pro plans. If nobody needs those controls, three separate Pro plans are the cheaper path.

Here is an API example. Running 10,000 requests through the Search API costs 10 x $5.00, or $50. With Fast Search the same volume costs 10 x $1.00, or $10.

What to Use Perplexity For in a High-Ticket Store

I would use it where you need sourced answers fast. Check whether a supplier has a record of late shipments, look up warranty terms across several brands, or find which accessories sell alongside a product you are adding.

It is also useful for competitor checks. Ask which stores rank for a product, what they charge and how they describe it. Always open the cited sources and confirm the numbers before anything goes on your site, because a summary can be wrong even when it cites a page.

For keyword data, use a dedicated tool instead. KWFinder shows search volume and difficulty. SE Ranking covers rank tracking, and Perplexity can suggest topics but it does not replace measured data.

Keep customer payment details and other sensitive data out of any chat, whichever AI tool you use. I cover the wider list of options in my guide to AI tools for research.

How to Check an Answer Before You Trust It

The citations are the main reason to use Perplexity, but a citation only helps if you open it. Click through to the source for any number, warranty term or shipping claim that will end up on your store.

Look at the date on the page too. Supplier terms and prices change, and a summary can quote an old version without saying so. If a claim matters, confirm it with the supplier directly and keep the email.

Treat the tool as a fast first pass. It can cut an afternoon of reading down to twenty minutes, but the final check still belongs to you.

Perplexity Versus ChatGPT and Claude for Store Owners

Perplexity is built around searching the web and showing sources, while the other two lean toward drafting and conversation. That means the decision comes down to the job, not only the price.

If most of your work is research with citations, Perplexity is the natural fit. If most of your work is writing product copy and customer replies, ChatGPT is the one many store owners pair with it. Claude is worth adding to that test too.

Run that test with your own work. Ask the same supplier question in each tool and check which answer cites sources you can actually verify. An hour of testing beats any review, including this one.

Using Perplexity With the Rest of Your Stack

Perplexity works best as a research step, not a replacement for the systems that talk to your customers. Do the research there, then load approved answers into a live chat tool such as Tidio so your team answers the same way every time.

Keep the follow-up in a CRM. Write the first draft elsewhere, then store contact records and deal notes in HubSpot, where you can see who replied and when.

For email campaigns, draft the copy in your assistant of choice and build the flow in Omnisend, so the sending and tracking happen in a tool built for it.

How to Keep the Cost Down

Start on the free plan and let a real limit tell you when to upgrade. Moving to Pro is a $17 a month decision on annual billing, so there is little reason to skip straight to Max.

Check whether annual billing suits you. Paying yearly is what brings Pro to $17 a month, so only pick it if you are sure you will still use the tool in twelve months.

Audit your seats every few months. A seat for a contractor who left is $40 a month that buys you nothing.

Finally, keep questions specific. A narrow question uses less of your allowance, and it usually gets you a cleaner answer with better sources.

Which Plan Fits Which Stage

If a feature list feels abstract, start from where your store is today.

Validating a product. Stay on the free plan. Research a few suppliers and see if the tool saves you time before you spend anything.

Your first steady orders. Move to Pro at $17 a month on annual billing. It covers a solo owner’s supplier research and competitor checks without a team plan.

Heavy daily use. Look at Max only if you hit the Pro limit most days. The price is $200 a month, so make sure the extra hours saved are worth that.

Adding people. Choose Enterprise Pro when two or more people need their own seats and shared admin. At $40 a seat monthly, it costs more than Pro, so confirm you need the controls.

Scaling. When ad spend and order volume grow, your time is better spent on offers and suppliers than on tools. If you would rather hand off the day-to-day running of the store, take a look at my store management service.
