NordVPN Free Trial, Coupon and Promo Code 2026: What Is Real and How to Check at Checkout

Yes, NordVPN has a free trial, but it is narrower than the headline suggests. As of October 7, 2026, NordVPN’s own trial page describes 7 days free for new customers on 1-year and 2-year Prime plans in a short list of countries, with a card or PayPal required. The option that works for almost everyone else is the 30-day money-back guarantee, and I could not verify a single working percent-off coupon code.

I run Ecommerce Paradise and I live in Bali, so VPN questions come up in my world all the time. If you are still deciding whether you need one yet, start with my explanation of what high-ticket dropshipping is, because a VPN only matters once your store has logins worth protecting. Then come back here and spend a few dollars of attention, not a few dollars of money.

This post covers the free trial terms as published, the Android trial, the money-back guarantee, how the promo code box works, the other discounts NordVPN lists, and how to verify any deal before you pay. I read NordVPN’s pricing page, its trial page, its help center and its discount pages on October 7, 2026, plus reviews from PCMag, CNET and TechRadar. I did not start a trial or buy a plan to test any of this, so confirm every term on your own checkout screen.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission if you sign up through my NordVPN link, at no extra cost to you. I could not confirm that my link changes the price, so I treat it as a way to reach the offer and not as a coupon.

Test NordVPN on Your Real Logins Before You Pay Full Price

NordVPN lists a 30-day money-back guarantee on every plan, 10 devices on one account, and Basic at $94.23 for the first 27 months. You do not need a code to get any of those.

The Short Answer: What You Can Actually Get for Free

There are three real ways to try NordVPN without paying for the full term. One is the 7-day free trial, one is the 3-day Android trial, and one is the 30-day money-back guarantee. Only the guarantee covers every plan and nearly every buyer.

The free trial is the most advertised and the least flexible. It is limited to new users, to specific plans and to specific countries, and it needs a card or PayPal on file. The guarantee asks you to pay first, but it gives you 30 days instead of 7, and it works on the plans most people actually buy.

PCMag’s NordVPN review, updated April 15, 2026, reaches a similar conclusion in different words. It recommends starting with a short-term plan to try the service, notes that NordVPN’s short free trial is Android only, and says all plans carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. That Android-only line does not match the 7-day trial on NordVPN’s own trial page, so use the review for the guarantee and the advice, and NordVPN’s pages for trial terms. Reviews also use older plan names than NordVPN’s current pricing page, so read them for the policy, not the tier labels.

The 7-Day NordVPN Free Trial, Term by Term

NordVPN has a dedicated trial page, and a separate help center article that repeats most of it. Between the two I can give you the shape of the offer, then flag where they disagree.

Who Qualifies

Both pages say the trial is only for new NordVPN users, meaning no prior NordVPN subscription. The trial page says it is available on 1-year and 2-year Prime plans. It says accepted payment methods are credit card or PayPal, and both pages say that Google Pay, Union Pay, Sofort and cryptocurrencies grey out the trial option.

The help center also says the trial is one per customer and tied to a new Nord Account. If you have ever had a NordVPN subscription, I would assume you do not qualify and plan around the guarantee instead.

What You Pay After Day 7

You pay nothing during the trial, but the plan starts automatically when it ends unless you cancel first. The help center says you will pay the price shown when you started the trial, and that NordVPN emails a reminder of the price and conditions before the paid subscription begins.

For scale, NordVPN’s pricing page lists Prime at $113.88 for the first 12 months on the 1-year plan and $202.23 for the first 27 months on the 2-year plan. Those are the pricing page numbers, not trial confirmations, so the figure on your own signup screen is the one that counts. After that first term, the page lists Prime renewing at $296.28 a year.

How to Start and Cancel It

The steps on the trial page are simple: pick a 1-year or 2-year plan, enter your payment details, download the app and use it for 7 days. To cancel, the help center says to log in to your Nord Account, click Billing, and under Subscriptions click Cancel next to Free trial. Menus change, so follow the labels on your screen.

The FTC’s guidance on free trials and auto-renewals says you usually have to give a card number so the company can charge you if you do not cancel in time. It also advises putting the trial end date on your calendar. I would set that reminder for day 5, not day 7, because a deadline you remember on the last afternoon is a deadline you miss.

Where the Sources Disagree

I found two places where NordVPN’s own pages do not line up, plus two gaps where the documents are silent. None of them changes my advice, but all of them are reasons to read your checkout screen slowly.

  • Countries: the trial page lists 13 (the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Italy and Poland), while the help center lists those plus Germany and Japan.
  • Plan names: the trial page says Prime, while the help center shows a bracketed list reading “Prime / Ultimate Max / Ultra / Complete Max”, which looks like unfinished template text and uses names that do not appear on the pricing page I read. I would assume Prime until your checkout screen says otherwise.
  • The pricing page: it lists the 30-day guarantee on every plan but does not mention a free trial at all.
  • The refund clock: the help center calls the 30-day guarantee separate from the trial, but I could not confirm whether the 30 days start when you begin the trial or when the first charge lands.

If you want the trial, check whether it appears for your country and plan at checkout. If you plan to lean on the guarantee after the trial converts, ask support in writing when the 30 days start before you rely on it.

The Android Trial and Other App Store Questions

The help center describes a separate 3-day free trial for first-time Android users who download the app from Google Play. It is one per customer, Google manages it under its own terms, and it is not available in Bangladesh, India, South Korea or Sri Lanka. PCMag’s review describes the same thing: a three-day trial, Android only, with payment information required.

I could not find any iPhone trial in NordVPN’s documents. The help center does say that if you downloaded NordVPN from Apple’s App Store, you contact Apple support for a refund, which is a reason to buy on NordVPN’s own site if you can. NordVPN’s refund article says it cannot issue refunds for App Store payments.

My advice on mobile is practical. If you are on Android and eligible, the 3-day trial is a free way to see whether the app runs on your phone, but three days is short for testing a supplier portal, a bank login and an ad account. The 30-day window on a regular purchase is a better test, and my guide on how to use NordVPN lists the settings worth changing in that first week.

The 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee Is the Trial That Counts

NordVPN’s pricing page lists a 30-day money-back guarantee on Basic, Complete and Prime, on the 2-year, 1-year and monthly plans. The wording is “tell us within 30 days of buying NordVPN and get a full refund.” It is the only try-it-for-free route that does not depend on a specific plan or on being a new Android user.

How to Claim It

The help center says to contact support through the live chat at the bottom of its help pages. Support sends you a link, you verify it is you, and the page shows which payments are eligible, each with a Refund button. You pick a reason, confirm the summary, and the status moves to Refund Processing.

NordVPN says processing can take up to 4 hours and that, depending on your payment method, the money can take up to 10 business days to reach your account. That means a refund is not instant, so do not treat the guarantee as a free loan.

The Limits That Matter

The guarantee applies only to your initial purchase. NordVPN says that once a subscription renews, it is no longer eligible under the policy unless local law says otherwise. The help center also lists three reasons you might not see a Refund button: the payment is more than 30 days old, a refund for your initial payment was already issued, or the payment is for a renewed term.

Notice the middle one. If you buy, refund and buy again, I would not count on a second refund, because the policy blocks refunds when one was already issued for your initial payment. Use the 30 days once, and use them well.

The way to use them well is to test things that would ruin your month. Open your supplier dealer portals, your payment processor and your business bank from a few server locations. If you manage dealer accounts, which is the process in my guide to finding suppliers for high-ticket dropshipping, check that each portal still lets you in. If you want to start with the guarantee, you can review NordVPN’s plans and 30-day terms here before you choose a term.

Is There a NordVPN Coupon Code in 2026?

Not one I can confirm. I found no code published on NordVPN’s pricing page, its special deal page or its help center that you can type in today for a percent off. What I found is a documented place to type a code if you have one, plus a list of other ways NordVPN says you can pay less.

NordVPN’s special deal page, as I read it, advertises “Save up to 75% and get 3 months extra,” with a price shown from $3.49 a month. That is an automatic offer, not a code. The pricing page footnote says savings are calculated by comparing the intro monthly price with the current monthly price of the annual renewal, and that the intro price is valid only for the first period.

The help center article on getting NordVPN cheaper names several routes: a student discount, special monthly coupons, affiliate coupon codes from content creators, referring a friend and occasional deals such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Creator codes are a real mechanism, but a code on a random page is not a creator code, and I could not find a public list of working ones.

How the Promo Code Box Works at Checkout

NordVPN’s help article on applying a coupon gives four steps. Menus change, so follow your screen.

  1. Go to NordVPN’s pricing page.
  2. Select your preferred plan.
  3. Click “Do you have a promo code?”
  4. Enter the code and press Apply.

The article says the deal matching your code is then applied to your purchase. It also says NordVPN runs discounts during certain events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and tells you to check its main page for active deals.

What the article does not say is whether a code stacks with the intro price, with the student discount or with a referral. I found no NordVPN document that answers that, so the only reliable test is what the order summary shows after you click Apply. If the total does not change, the code did nothing.

The Other Discounts NordVPN Publishes

The Student and Employee Discount

NordVPN has a discount page headlined as a special discount with an extra 15% off. It says the 2-year deal applies worldwide to students, graduates, teachers, healthcare professionals, first responders and military officers, and offers an extra 15% for those occupations. The help center article on getting NordVPN cheaper describes it differently, as an additional discount for students and apprentices aged 18 to 26.

I could not reconcile those two descriptions, and the discount page I read did not spell out the verification step. If you qualify, use the page’s own “Check the Deals” button and read the order summary before you pay. If you do not qualify, this one is not for you.

Refer a Friend

NordVPN’s referral page says you get 3 free months for every friend who buys through your link, and that your friend gets 3 extra months on a 1-year or 2-year plan or 1 free month on a monthly plan. The trial page’s FAQ repeats the 3 months, but the help center article on getting NordVPN cheaper says referring a friend earns you a month. The referral page says the program works only for apps downloaded from NordVPN’s website, not the App Store or Google Play, and that referred friends must be new to the service.

Because the help center and the referral page differ, treat the reward size as unconfirmed. This only helps if you already have a NordVPN account and a friend who is new to it.

Seasonal Deals and Retail Cards

Support says to watch for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. By the calendar those fall on November 27 and November 30, 2026, roughly seven weeks after I read these pages, and NordVPN has published no November prices that I could find. CNET’s NordVPN review, updated August 2, 2026, notes that you can stack a Black Friday purchase onto an existing plan, adding months to your current package.

NordVPN’s pricing page also says you can buy it in retail stores such as Best Buy and Target, but that “NordVPN costs less when you order a special deal directly from our website.” So a retail card is not a shortcut to a lower price.

Not Sure a Trial Will Cover Your Real Workflow? Use the Refund Window

NordVPN’s guarantee runs 30 days from the first purchase, refunds can take up to 10 business days to reach your account, and cancelling auto-renewal is done under Billing in your Nord Account. Test the logins that matter, then keep or refund.

What a Trial or Refund Costs If You Slip

The risk with any trial is not the first week. It is the charge that follows. These figures are my own arithmetic from the prices on NordVPN’s pricing page as I read it on October 7, 2026, before sales tax, and they assume the checkout price matches the page.

Path Charged on day 1 Back if a refund is approved in the window Next charge if you do nothing
7-day trial, Prime 1-year $0 Nothing charged yet $113.88 when the trial converts
7-day trial, Prime 2-year $0 Nothing charged yet $202.23 when the trial converts
Basic, monthly $14.99 $14.99 $14.99 again next month
Basic, 1-year $65.88 $65.88 $139.08 at renewal
Basic, 2-year (27 months) $94.23 $94.23 $139.08 at renewal
Complete, 1-year $77.88 $77.88 $219.48 at renewal

The comparison that surprises people is monthly Basic against the free trial. A month of Basic costs $14.99, and if you ask for the refund inside the window and it is approved, my arithmetic puts your net cost at $0. That tests the service for 30 days instead of 7, without a Prime-level charge waiting at the end, though your cash is tied up until the refund lands.

The flip side is the long plans. A 2-year Basic purchase puts $94.23 on your card, and a missed deadline means a $139.08 renewal later. I walk through that math in my NordVPN pricing guide.

Turning off auto-renewal is the move that protects you, and I show the steps in my guide to how to cancel NordVPN. TechRadar’s NordVPN review puts it bluntly: the first thing to do after signing up is turn off auto-renewal, because customers are opted in by default.

How to Verify Any NordVPN Deal Before You Pay

Whether a friend sends you a code, a creator mentions one or a coupon site lists one, run the same checks. This list is my own process, built from NordVPN’s documents.

  1. Start from NordVPN’s own pricing page, not from the coupon site’s button, and note the price shown for your plan before you enter anything.
  2. Select the plan, click “Do you have a promo code?”, enter the code and press Apply.
  3. Compare the order total before and after Apply. If nothing changes, the code did nothing for that plan.
  4. Read the term and the renewal price, since NordVPN’s footnote says the intro price applies only to the first period and renewal prices may be higher.
  5. Check which plan you are buying and what is in the cart. NordVPN’s help center lists picking a bundle such as Complete instead of a basic VPN plan, or adding an extra like a dedicated IP at checkout, among the common causes of a charge that looks wrong.
  6. Screenshot the order summary and keep the confirmation email, because you will want both if a charge looks wrong later.
  7. Put the refund deadline and the renewal date on your calendar the day you buy.

If the total changes and the plan matches what you wanted, the code is real for you. If it does not, close the tab and use the price on the page.

Why Coupon Sites Keep Showing Codes That Fail

This section is my reasoning from NordVPN’s documents, not a study of coupon sites, and I cannot prove why any one code failed. NordVPN says it runs discounts during certain events, so a code can be real and expired. The pricing page says the intro price is valid only for the first period, so a code that worked last month can simply stop.

NordVPN’s own help article on wrong-amount charges says a coupon may have expired, been entered incorrectly or not be eligible for your chosen plan, and that the checkout screen will show it if the code was not applied. That is the cleanest test I know: the screen tells you.

A code can also belong to a creator, a partner, a specific plan, a specific country or a past campaign. None of that is visible on a coupon site, which is why a page full of codes with no terms is not evidence of a deal. If a site makes you click through several screens before it reveals a code, that tells you something about who is paid when you click.

There is a safety side too. The FTC’s guide to recognizing and avoiding phishing scams says legitimate companies will not email or text a link to update your payment information, and that you should contact a company through a website or number you know is real. Apply the same caution to any page that asks for your Nord Account login, a download or an unlock fee before it shows a code.

Who Should Skip the Hunt and Who Should Wait

If you only need a VPN for one trip or one risky Wi-Fi connection, skip the coupon hunt. A month of Basic at $14.99, with a refund request if you do not like it, costs less of your time than a morning of code testing. That is my judgment, not a statistic.

If you have not picked a niche yet, skip it for now too. A VPN solves an access problem, not a business problem, and the better use of this week is my high-ticket niches list. Add the VPN when you have supplier and bank logins to protect.

If you are overseas, are already planning to buy and are not in a hurry, waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Monday is a reasonable bet, since NordVPN’s own help center names them. It is a bet, though, because no November price is published, and a VPN you need for a work trip next week should not wait for it. If you would rather have guidance on the whole business than on one tool, my coaching is the route.

My free mini course is a good first step if you are not ready for that yet.

Low-Commitment Alternatives If You Do Not Want Nord

If the 30-day refund and the renewal price are what bother you, you can shop around. These are plain names, with facts from the reviews I read, and you should confirm each at the vendor’s checkout.

Service What the review says Source
Mullvad 5 euros a month, which PCMag converted to $5.90 at the time of writing, with no renewal hike per CNET PCMag and CNET
Proton VPN free plan One of the few free VPNs PCMag tested that does not limit data PCMag

I cover a budget rival’s numbers in my NordVPN vs PIA comparison. My NordVPN alternatives guide lines up more options.

If you are using the VPN for a business, put the subscription on the same card or account as your other tools so the renewal shows up in your quarterly review. My business formation guide covers keeping those accounts separate, and your accountant can tell you how to treat the expense.

My Verdict on NordVPN Trials and Coupons

As of October 7, 2026, here is how I would rank what NordVPN offers. The 30-day money-back guarantee is the dependable one, the 7-day trial is real but narrow, the Android trial is short, and I could not verify a percent-off coupon code. The documented discounts are the student and employee page, the referral program and seasonal sales, each with conditions I could not fully reconcile.

For most store owners, the plan is simple. Buy the cheapest term that fits how long you will really keep it, test your actual logins in the first week, and set two calendar reminders: one for the refund deadline and one for before the renewal date. If you want to begin, you can check NordVPN’s current plans and trial terms and read the total on the signup screen before you pay.

Ready to Decide? Pick the Plan, Test It, Keep the Refund Option

Basic lists at $94.23 for the first 27 months, Complete at $121.23 and Prime at $202.23, each with a 30-day guarantee and 10 devices. Check the renewal figure on the page before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does NordVPN have a free trial in 2026?
Yes, but only for new customers on certain plans in certain countries. NordVPN’s trial page describes 7 days free on 1-year and 2-year Prime plans, with a card or PayPal required, and the plan starts automatically unless you cancel. You can see whether the trial shows for your country on NordVPN’s plans page, and the 30-day guarantee is the fallback.

Is there a working NordVPN coupon code right now?
I could not verify one in October 2026. NordVPN documents a promo code box at checkout and says it runs discounts around events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but I found no specific working code. Test any code you are given and compare the total before and after you click Apply.

Can I get my money back if I do not like NordVPN?
NordVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase, requested through live chat, with up to 10 business days for the money to reach your account. Renewals are not covered unless local law says otherwise, and App Store purchases are refunded by Apple. If you buy directly, you can start with NordVPN and keep the refund option open.

Does the NordVPN free trial need a credit card?
It needs a payment method on file, but not necessarily a card. NordVPN’s trial page says you can pick PayPal instead of a card, and that Google Pay, Union Pay, Sofort and crypto options grey out the free-trial choice. The Android trial also needs payment information, according to PCMag.

Is there a NordVPN discount for students?
NordVPN has a student and employee discount page that offers an extra 15% for listed occupations. Its help center describes the discount as for students and apprentices aged 18 to 26, so the two pages do not match. Check the order summary at the end and confirm your eligibility before you pay.
